GiddyGap,

Maybe, but that doesn’t really have anything to do with what the article is covering.

GiddyGap,

require at least 20% down for their system to work would be a nonstarter for so many people.

That’s not really how it works, though. You actually only have a to put down 5 percent or more in Denmark. Much like the US.

The difference is that, in Denmark, the mortgage (the loan with the covered bond) can only finance 80 percent of the value, the rest can be financed by a regular bank loan. So 80 percent mortgage and 15 percent bank loan.

GiddyGap,

No worries. The article isn’t clear on that.

GiddyGap,

Here’s an in-depth comparison between the US and Danish mortgage models. It’s a PDF from the NY Fed:

newyorkfed.org/…/epr_2018_us-danish-mortgage-fina…

GiddyGap,

Imagine the difference a Gore win would have made.

  • GiddyGap,

The graphs are macroeconomics, your receipts are microeconomics. Two different worlds that people mix up. That’s also the point of the article.

    GiddyGap, (edited )

Trump would have put it into a wall and Big Macs for his Cheeto-dusted minions.

    GiddyGap,

McConnell spent his entire political career focusing on the Supreme Court above all else. The current conservative majority is his masterpiece, one that will affect American life for decades to come. He did that while his opponent were bickering about the smaller stuff.

It will take decades to change back, but get out there and vote whenever you can.

[US] I'm hesitating launching my own business because I'd lose health insurance for my family. What are my options?

I have everything pretty much ready to launch full time. Time, skills, customers, support from family. But I’d leave my current job behind and with it my family’s health insurance for the foreseeable future. I can’t afford any of the options I’ve seen. It’s the one thing holding me back. Any ideas for affordable health...

    GiddyGap,

I can, but it’s still outrageously expensive compared to my current situation. It would put a lot of financial stress on us in a situation that’s already stressful in every way possible.

    GiddyGap,

Yeah, that’s also what I’m thinking. It’s just so sad that the US healthcare system is the thing that’s holding back business. Seems counterintuitive. I was just hoping someone knew of a good workaround.

I guess one option is to save more and risk losing the business opportunity.

    GiddyGap,

It would work anywhere, but the opportunity I have is in the US and moving overseas right now is not really an option.

I do feel discouraged that it’s the healthcare system that’s holding back my business opportunity. Shouldn’t be like that.

    GiddyGap,

    I don’t like that.

I was actually part of a startup in Europe some years ago. Healthcare was not part of the equation.

    GiddyGap,

Thanks for the suggestions. We have been thinking about having my partner switch jobs to something that provides better healthcare coverage. But that could take a while and put the business opportunity at risk.

    GiddyGap,

viewpoints like that are harmful towards the working class

News flash: The working class in most of Europe is doing much better than the working class in the US. And that’s with much higher gas prices and higher taxes.

They also drive more EVs and have a heck of a lot higher quality public transportation.

    GiddyGap,

As someone who has lived in Europe for more than two decades, I can tell you that most rural zones in the EU do not lack public transportation. EVs become cheaper when it’s the norm. Lmao

    GiddyGap,

I know nothing about Spain. I’ve lived in several northern European countries, and it’s nothing like you attempt to describe.

    GiddyGap,

I’m comparing the most comparable region of Europe to the US. You’re comparing the least comparable region of Europe to the US. Lmao

    GiddyGap,

Oil should be made obsolete. Everyone knows it, not everyone will admit it. And one efficient way to do that is by making it more expensive to use oil-based products. We have a climate and a planet in dire trouble, my friend. We need to find more alternatives, and EVs are a great alternative. But you coal-rollers can’t seem to get past your lame-ass trucks and V6s. How ignorant.

    GiddyGap, (edited )

You keep saying that I think oil should be more expensive in Europe. Not once did I say that. Not once. I said gas should be more expensive in the US like in Europe to get off the oil dependency.

    GiddyGap,

    Basically all of western Europe.

But that’s much like the States. If you live in much of the South, you may as well live in a third-world country.

    GiddyGap,

What other countries do is build viable public transportation to counter.

    GiddyGap, (edited )

Definitely agree. But there are a lot people in the US who have been conditioned to whine about “communist public transportation” every time it’s brought up, so it never really happens. EVs are a good middle ground to get many of these people onboard with more environmentally friendly transportation.

    GiddyGap,

Yet, progressives are contemplating not voting because Biden is “not doing enough.” Guess they’d rather see what Trump has in store for them.
