I installed NetGuard about a month ago and blocked all internet to apps, unless they’re on a whitelist. No notifications from this particular system app (that can’t be disabled) until recently when it started making internet connection requests to google servers. Does anyone know when this became a thing?...
What’s stopping someone from enabling debug mode, downloading adb tools and running pm uninstall --user0 then the package name? Surely with the app removed, the app can’t brick your phone. Or running a custom rom like lineage or graphine os?
By far, the feature I most sorely miss in Linux compared to macOS is Quick Look. Press the space bar, see file contents. Use the arrow keys, view different files. Simple, quick, and WAY faster than opening an entire app every single time I want to check the contents of a file. I also miss the column view in conjunction with...
Are there good Microsoft word alternatives that support Linux (I don’t mind closed source)? Libreoffice is meh and only office is quite good, but are there any better ones? Also, is there a way to install word on Linux using wine? When I do that my laptop just overheats and loses internet connection.
I did a look into this. softmaker is best when it comes to compatibility of displaying files. Wps office is ok, but some text would be on top of others. I did find that there is a free version of softmaker, which should be ok.
Why did the borg go back in time to the 2060s? Why not go back in time 2023, when people are dealing with the cost of living and lack or access to basic essentials. The borg would enslave those they want to and prevent first contact.
Just simply send a link along with that’s generally better and that lots of people are moving over. Watomatic could be looked into as a way to automatically remind people you are on signal when they go to Facebook you. It would then prompt then to install signal.
I take the attitude if they want to contact me either, phone, email or text.
I’m trying to find a good method of making periodic, incremental backups. I assume that the most minimal approach would be to have a Cronjob run rsync periodically, but I’m curious what other solutions may exist....
I use lucky backup to mirror to external drive. And I also use Duplicacy to back up 2 other separate drives at the same time. Have a read on the data hoarder wiki on backups.
You are better of inviting them to Signal. If they know how to use WhatsApp, then they know how to use Signal. It’s designed to be as easy as possible, while secure and private.
Meta (owner of Facebook, Instagram & WhatsApp) is joining the fediverse very soon and we have to seriously prepare. This isn't a theoretical scenario anymore.
Ok that seams nuts. Never thought this would happen as it would mean that people would delete Facebook accounts and basically move to mastodon or such. But I bet it's only between Facebook Instagram and WhatsApp. Like you could message people on Instagram and WhatsApp from Facebook and Visa versa and not actually follow people on mastodon.

This may sound a bit dumb, but eh....
What's your favorite map style?
How does your everyday map look like? Which map style do you use?
How do you all go about backing up your data, on Linux?

Alternative WhatsApp Client
Hate to use the app but many relatives only have one. Is there any privacy hardened versions for Android?
