HobbitFoot,

Not really. The thing about oldies stations is that they play songs that have become popular not just then, but now as well. People forget a lot about the mediocre and bad, like Disco Duck: youtu.be/i_WEMCUhF0E

HobbitFoot,

I’ve been single for most of my adult life. I prefer it to being in a relationship, as I like myself better single.

HobbitFoot,

I’m not good partner and it makes me feel bad. I also don’t like the feeling of additional stress that comes in being in a relationship.

Should I avoid or engage in current news right now?

During the last ‘election summer’ things went haywire but ultimately nothing meaningful really happened, and not a whole lot really changed as a result of that unrest. This time things are going haywire again, and it seems like something big will happen but people thought that the last time… Would it just be better to...

HobbitFoot,

I find that it is better to consume more longform news over shorter term “breaking news”.

HobbitFoot,

The problem for me using my evaporative dehumidifier is cleaning off the minerals every week.

HobbitFoot,

It may not be beneficial for a government to ban a vice as the costs of banning it may cost more than the costs of society to bear the burden of dealing with the vice.

Of course, there are separate discussions as to how governments should allow capitalism to interact with vices. Take tobacco as an example, a generation ago, tobacco was allowed to be advertised as any other commercial product. That has significantly changed since then, to the point where some governments go so far as regulating packaging.

I expect gambling is on the deregulation path as it is a way for some governments to raise revenue without raising common taxes while the societal costs are seen as low.

HobbitFoot,

I kind of want to buy that shirt as a gift for someone.

HobbitFoot,

Never said it had to be complimentary.

HobbitFoot,

Looks like we are above two now. We’ll have to see if we are under eleventy billion.

HobbitFoot,

It really depends on the gift recipient. Is the kid going to miss it?

HobbitFoot,

Whatever the Steam Deck would be if Valve went full Linux desktop?

HobbitFoot,

The nation was built on ideals it wasn’t practicing at the time. It has made the country a hypocrite, but it also gives guidance on what the country should be.

That there is a conflict between the ideals of the country and the current practice of those ideals is nothing new.

HobbitFoot,

If you can work from anywhere, you can get hired from anywhere.

HobbitFoot,

The problem is that the ANC replaced the white oligarchy with a black one.

HobbitFoot,

One that wasn’t mentioned here is Enter the Void. The opening credits soften you up for a trippy voyage.

HobbitFoot,

My work is important and is sometimes in the news. And if I really screw up, it will definitely be in the news!

HobbitFoot,

Yep. And on the flip side, if I call a communist a socialist, it may be true technically, but I’m connotating that they want social capitalism instead of full communism.

And while theory written 100 years ago may have those terms be near equivalent, the meanings of those words have drifted a little since then.

HobbitFoot,

If you are going by theory, sure. But if the word socialism gets used in conversation today, it will probably get interpreted as something like the Nordic model.
