I had the same thoughts as watching it. Mind you I’m not into the games at all, just have a passing familiarity with random Internet articles. It just didn’t seem to move and didn’t focus on one arc long enough to give a crap about anyone until the end where it ties together. I almost stopped watching it because when it would get good, they would invariably cut to another character arc and lose me.
There are some that manage to make it a long life with what most would have issues with (I.e. a lifetime of smoking.) A good friend died recently and he made it to what I would consider a long life. Was able to retire and stay active for years. Got diagnosed with cancer, two weeks later dead after the first chemo therapy. I’m very happy he didn’t live a much longer life - the pain that would have put him in would have been unbearable, and given how quickly he passed in guessing the cancer was fairly advanced…
Cain appreciated the performances and storytelling, but singled out how the show nailed the Fallout “vibe” as its biggest achievement. “I was just looking at all the props,” he said of one scene. “I realized after a few minutes went by that I had not followed the dialogue at all, because I was so engrossed by it...
Agreed. I think for the way they had to cut it up and introduce so many seemingly “key” characters, it really dragged on for me until about mid way. And I still didn’t have a good handle on the world as a whole at that point. Feeling like I’m missing something the whole time makes me not want to continue.
My kids and I watched the first two episodes last night, and I’m impressed. It feels like Fallout. I like the characters so far, and they squeeze in enough game references to keep my brain spiking with recognition....
As someone who hasn’t played the games and am 5 episodes in, I’m not finding myself particularly attached to the series if that makes sense. I’m also not sure if I shouldn’t just pick the games up on steam and run through them in the coming months - partially because I’m not convinced they’re in my style of play (I mostly like older arcade shmups and fps, like Doom eternal etc). That being said, I can see the direction they’re going. The character development is pretty obvious with only a few a-ha moments. I keep wondering when for those who aren’t as engaged in the game will have a more complete picture, but also understand that most shows didn’t give up the ghost all at once anyways just to rope you in. Curious what others who are only in passing familiarity with the game think as well.
Good call on borderlands. I’m hopeful for that to be good but will make sure my personal bar is low so it doesn’t get soul crushing watching it. Almost done with the season - if I had to say anything, my guess was that it would be a little more science fictiony - of course, there are bits here and there. Perhaps more akin to the BioShock franchise - but again, I was blind coming into it and can see the relationships if you’re knowledgeable on game lore. Good call too on someone else here stating to give the vault number a ring. Saw that pop up while watching today. That was good!
Yeah they’re definitely better now, I’m reading anywhere between 1% per year or 12.5% at year 25. There are other things that can pop up though, micro cracks causing localized overheating of the panel - to backing failures and other physical issues. I’m interested in standing some up at some point but the capital eludes me at the moment.
No worries at all. Like you said though, with advancements people will likely do upgrades over time anyways. I don’t have numbers off the top of my head, but even just the per panel efficiencies have grown fantastically since your last experience.

Oh agreed 100%. Only way I would pay 30 is to have a copy of the file in perpetuity. At that, streaming also isn’t going to be the same stream off the Blu-ray, so lower quality at that (perceptible or not)

Created something kind of neat for a former company. Was a hell of a hack job. They want to migrate it to a different platform… Haven’t been there in quite some time, but I told them when we were there that it would be a mess to maintain. They still haven’t migrated it.
