I'm looking at buying an e-bike.

Anyone know of a good how-to-choose page, or have recommendations of bikes to avoid?

Karstan,
@Karstan@urbanists.social avatar

@enobacon @thedorismith I second all of this.

I need to get an 18in cut-and-hold pruner to carry on the for the blackberry vines around SW @ShawneMartinez do I need to cut down a 3ft one? 🩸

@enobacon @ShawneMartinez I've seriously considered carrying a machete on my bike or when out walking for this exact reason (this and low-hanging branches in the ROW). Then I remember how everybody panics about the dumbest stuff and reconsider. :/

Coloniser plants GTFO my yard! The dirt has hardened over many of the blackberry roots and the avens are nearly to seed 😬... Arum probably having a party somewhere I haven't found yet🥳

@enobacon And English Ivy 🤦🤦

Karstan,
@Karstan@urbanists.social avatar

@enobacon yeah, I've got all the above. The buttercup (?) has been the worst offender the last couple years, followed closely by the Ivy. It's a never-ending war. :/

I’ve got a three year old Fitbit and I’m thinking of replacing it and wondering if I should get an Apple Watch. I mainly care about step counting (I walk about 6 miles per day).

I don’t care too much about fancy features, and I probably trust Apple more than Google at this point.

Any thoughts on switching?

Karstan,
@Karstan@urbanists.social avatar

@rasterweb A third option: I have a Garmin watch and like it a lot. Lots of price points to choose from.

I made a relief print on one of the pieces of paper I made a few weeks ago...

@rasterweb seriously though, on top of being into it myself this graphic would be perfect for a friend of mine.

@rasterweb woo! Do you have paypal?

Any suggestions for a map/navigation app alternative to ? Far too often I enter an address that it can't/won't find and I'm kind of over it.

Ah no, the little g310 motor is not an option for regen braking, without an extra set of thrust bearings to counter the axial force from the helical gears.

Karstan,
@Karstan@urbanists.social avatar

@enobacon i have several of those bafangs with helical gears that I got for a song last summer. I was going through the exact same thought process a couple weeks ago. I gave up on it as needlessly complicated, but if you can sort it out please post details!

Karstan,
@Karstan@urbanists.social avatar

@enobacon It's part of the exterior housing as I understand it. See attached photo where I circled in orange. (My motors are sightly different G320s, but the differences are minimal.)

I'm not clear where the thrust bearings would need to go to make it work? On the outer edge of the planetary gears? In my 2nd photo, the current/existing bearings are underneath, then would the new one go on top? If so, maybe if you machined down the width of those outer teeth there would be room?
