Some of my posts have been deleted by the moderators of musicians.today because they “contain misinformation about the Israel-Hamas war.“ My „misinformation“ was to write, that there is no black and white and that it is wrong to blame only and that the is a organisation that is openly promoting a genocide on .
When I asked the moderators, what‘s wrong about my posts, they answered, they don‘‘t want to get into details.
I‘m afraid the fight is lost

Low ticket prices, that was typical for punk rock/hardcore concerts

Fugazi at Irving Plaza, New York City, April 4, 1995. Tickets are a super cheap $6 👍

@historyofpunkrock

I remember seeing Fugazi in Munich around 1990 (what a fantastic show!!) and the price for the ticket was 10 or 12 DM = 5$ or so. These were the times, when on Punk LPs sometimes was printed: „don’t pay more than…“

Well, Nick Cave will be in town in September: The cheapest ticket costs more than 100€/$
🤮

Kaskich,
@Kaskich@musicians.today avatar

@sll @historyofpunkrock

You‘re right. Me as well, I would have enough money for the Nick Cave ticket nowadays. But I am not interested in these mega events anymore. Let’s get back to the small clubs. For example I saw Billy Nomates some months ago in a small venue with 250 people or so. Much more fun than in a stadium.

1980 was a great year for releasing a punk rock long player

16 releases, all of which have cult status

Do you have a favorite or is your favorite LP missing?

Kaskich,
@Kaskich@musicians.today avatar

@historyofpunkrock

I was a little bit too young for being a punk rocker in 1980, but my first punk LP ever is on the list: the Dead Kennedys Debut. Bought it some years later in white vinyl - and of course it is still my favorite.
But The Clash‘s Sandinista and Killing Joke are great, too. So this is my good intention for Easter: pull them out of the shelf and listen again!

Which 4 punk rock musicians would you put in this picture?

Ian MacKaye
Henry Rollins
Dee Dee Ramone
Jello Biafra

And also Zero Boys from Indianapolis - it was almost 40 years ago that I hitchhiked through half of Bavaria to see them in a small youth club in a small town near the Alpes - but when we got there, there was a handwritten note at the door: concert canceled.

4 proto-punk debut albums that had a significant influence on punk rock

MC5 - Kick Out the Jams
The Stooges - The Stooges
New York Dolls - New York Dolls
The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico

Any Fav for you?

PS: I must admit, that I don’t know much about mc5 and don’t know their music - but I will change that. I just discovered their photo chronicler Leni Sinclair, who flew from east Germany to Detroit in the 60ies, married the mc5-manager and shot great pictures of them, of Iggy, of Martin Luther King etc.
Highly recommended.

Jello Biafra, HR, Ian MacKaye and Henry Rollins were the frontmen during a standout period of American hardcore punk.

Hard to pick an absolute favorite, but do you have it?

#punk #hardcorepunk #punkrock #legends #history #punkrockhistory

Kaskich,
@Kaskich@musicians.today avatar

@historyofpunkrock

Really hard to pick. I saw 3 of them on stage. The most charismatic was HR - a dervish. Fugazi was great, but it was a collective, not an Ian-Show (which is a good, Punk should be against star cult!) I saw Henry as spoken word artist, but it didn’t catch me (well, he talked about the ashes of his mother & it was just a week after my mother’s death)
DK were the band, who influenced me the most, but I never saw Jello on stage. Hope, this will change - so ask me again later.

decades ago, I took a hitchhiker with me. I met him again some years ago and he told me: this trip with me changed his life, because of the Crass album in my stereo, while driving. In fact he became a sound artist or respectively: a noise artist.

Normally, I don't give much to the opinion of music magazines, but as far as I remember The Rolling Stone chose „London Calling“ as best album of the 80ies - even if it was published in December 1979. And in this case, I have to agree with TRS.

There‘s no bad or even mediocre song on it, only classics, political and poetic - and of course the best bass line ever: The Guns of Brixton

    Is it really necessary to use words like „death march“, that are clearly associated with #shoa, to describe the situation in #Gaza? 10 km from where I live happened a death march 80 years ago and I spoke to survivors and witnesses- and believe me: it is something completely different to be beaten and hunted and shot by the SS after having suffered for years in a KZ than what is happening in Gaza. So to use words like death march means playing down the #holocaust

    Kaskich,
    @Kaskich@musicians.today avatar

    @GhostOnTheHalfShell

    Hard to be calm if someone calls the Shoa „ just an example“. Sorry to say that, but it doesn’t cast a good light on your historical knowledge.
    The Nazis killed the Jews just because they were Jews, just like Hamas does it, too. This is completely different to what Israel is doing against the Hamas.

    Kaskich,
    @Kaskich@musicians.today avatar

    @GhostOnTheHalfShell

    Hoped Mastodon would be a place for debate. But it took only two Threads to bring the antisemitic underground to the surface: remastering of centuries-old conspiracy theories (Jews just want to kill children) without any reflection about the responsibility of hamas and its fascist, homophobic, sexist regime of terror for the situation in Gaza and without any emphasis for the victims of Hamas‘ massacres. No common basis for debating. End of discussion.

    Some weeks ago I was interviewed by a radio station about what shaped me when I was 16 and I told how I rampt to Berlin in 1987 and got into the Kreuzberg riots against the Reagan-visit in Berlin. The whole neighbourhood was in turmoil and was sealed off and police officers fought their way through the streets. At the end of the interview they asked me, what was your personal soundtrack in these times and the answer was clear: Babylon‘s burning
