I have 30 pictures of 6 months of weight loss pics. In all of them I’m standing in the same background in the same position. I’m willing to do a little bit of *cutting out" backgrounds and drawing nodes if I need to....
I just took a look at my “Before & After” pictures that span May-Nov 2019. I lost 57Kg of fat and put on about 13Kg of muscle. It was interesting to look back at the slideshow just now!
Although it is difficult to distinguish the muscles growing vs. the fat shrinking, it looks to me like my increase in muscle mass started to be noticeable from around the 3 month point. By “noticeable” I mean that the “definition lines” started to be visible although major increase in mass isn’t apparent.
The increase in mass looks like it started around the 4-5 month point, at which point I had progressed past the “do my best” beginner workouts, and had established the required strength, endurance and range of motion to take the next steps, so to speak.
So I first noticed my strength, endurance, range, and muscular definition increasing, and later noticed the size increase.
I would like to encourage you to keep at it, and don’t chase results. Do what you’re doing with the goal of being happier, having fewer health complications and pains, a little bit of vanity which is totally fine, and let the rest take care of itself.
One of the things that can be very defeating is to assume you will have reached an arbitrary goal by an arbitrary time-frame. Try to shift your perspective to realize that you’re doing all the right things, perhaps there’s some efficiency tweaks but that’s another story. Keep going and don’t measure your progress against anybody else but you!
(I want to acknowledge that my story is not normal. Nobody should ever lose 10Kg+ a month. I’m one of these a__holes that has to do 50% of what most people need to get the same results though and that’s a blessing. I also have digestive and nutrient-absorption issues but I’m not sure how much that plays in.)
I work in the field of mental health, specifically mostly in the area of recovery mentorship.
This is an area that is effectively dominated by women.
I wish women could see how that within the realm of healing, they have constructed their own systems of power where men are oppressed, abused, belittled, and prevented from accessing those services without standing up to / enduring that level of hatred.
In short, once the oppressed have the guns, they become the oppressors.
That is not a bold claim, that is a factual statement from someone that works directly in the field.
Yes, a specific example is being in a men’s session and having one of the female counselors invalidate the males’ experience because “Oh yeah, you should try being a woman in a man’s world”. That is just one tiny incident, but it is revelatory of a series of repugnant biases.
If there’s one thing people will not do to make a situation better, it’s to actually get up and do something themselves about it.
Especially if it requires that person to give without expectation of directly receiving something in return - never mind the concept of “be what you want the world to be”.

I have read the AMC feasibility study and it is an absolute joke of pure PORK. If you want to see fraud, download the AMC feasibility study and notice how they have budgeted things like $3,000 per day x 365 days for a site manager.

I’m watching both of these shows in their entirety and I don’t know why they’ve historically gotten so much backlash. One reviewer called TBL “a dumpster fire of a TV show” and others seem to think M6L is downright abusive. However, I can’t find anything particularly bad in either....
These are television shows that exploit people who have the mental illnesses which result in obesity.
You wouldn’t take a bunch of people with clinical depression and make a show called “smile, ya dipshit” about them.
Biggest loser is centered around the idea that losing weight is the answer to people’s problems when it’s not.
The one where they have these severely ill people living their lives is just so others can watch, leer, and feel quietly superior that “at least I’m not those people”.
You know what, I completely agree, and it’s the anonymity of the internet that lets us talk about these real feelings.
I personally do not like the emotional toll that most shows take on me. I find most of the things that people find wildly funny to be really mean spirited.
I watched one episode of the office and I was so revolted by the paper thin excuses to set up “situations” for racist, sexist, homophobic and generally cruel gallows humor.
I see shows like Family Guy and American Dad, and while I can give them fair praise for often having very biting commentary, again it feels like they are gratuitous in how awful they aim to be.
I too judge others based on their preferences in these shows. I know people that watch various ones, and they all sit teem with spiteful glee as they watch and discuss them. I find that quite revolting and I also agree with you, it speaks to their character.
Why anybody would want a show where people conspire against each other, or damage their own bodies, or make complete asses of themselves, or watch them get talked down to by a snappy no-nonsense judge is beyond me.
I don’t want to see “sympathetic” horrible people in my forms of entertainment. I don’t want to see the world through their lens or sympathize with them. I don’t want to see them get their comeuppance.
I really think those shows are thinly veiled excuses for people to wallow in spite and delight in suffering.
Okay so NASA lost a $327 million Mars probe because said was transmitting trajectory corrections in the SI Units of Newton-Seconds, but the home base software was interpreting and calculating it as Pound Seconds.
Remembering that there was endless amounts of scientific equipment aboard that took years to make, and the whole enchilada took 10 months traveling through space before it could even crash.
Another tip is if somebody says something, do not necessarily come back with a topical response, sometimes just repeat exactly what they just said flatly and wait for them.
This shows you are listening and creates a nanosecond of validation. And instead of filling the gap in conversation with your response, you give them a chance to expand their thoughts.
I was a game developer for almost 20 years, and I made so many games that it reached the point where I just realized, there is literally nothing left to learn, I have “done it all”.
I started in the day when there was no tools to make graphics, if you wanted graphics you first made a drawing program.
Eventually it became insanely boring and tedious to me. Sure, technology kept changing, but the underlying challenges were long solved.
I’m not going to elbow drop Owlboy, but I think you should try it within the refund window because in my opinion it’s way overhyped, and does not deliver much mechanically.

People use the idea that there's no way to change something simply to relieve themselves of the responsibility to change something.
If your pet had the ability to answer only one question, what would you ask?
My husband and both gave the obvious and identical answer. I’m really curious to see what Lemmy comes up with.
