In France you had to write your cover letter by hand, because they study your writing, the shape of letters, the height of your b and d, the loop, etc. They also with your DOB check some numerology and astrology too. You must include your picture too, it’s the first filter they apply, your face.

It was the same for I guess Google, 15 years ago I’d have apply for a job there, now? no. Right now I’d not apply to everything Musk, Meta, Google, MS, IBM, HP, etc. It does not work. small company, max 100 people, are better.

2 or 4 days every 10 weeks, it’s 500kms away (300 miles) I stay at hotel

Same, March 2020, in 2020-2022 I never went to office not even one day. 2023 got another contract for a year, went there 3 or 4 times in the year to take/bring back some hardware I needed for development. 2024 new remote job 500kms away, go there 2 days every 10 weeks, stay at hotel, they pay.

In great Montreal area it’s more and more enormous, condo 1000sqft+, thousands of them, that people cannot buy because they are too expensive, I don’t understand the system

Magister,
@Magister@lemmy.world avatar

Yup, I did this every year when I was going to the states for 3-4 weeks in summer. I started booking in January, then about every week I checked the price for the same summer date, in general it was cheaper so I cancelled/rebooked, multiple times.

Also instead of rent from airport, I rent from smaller places (that handle Hertz/Enterprise/National/etc) and I always booked a subcompact, and 50% of the time they had none and gave me a compact/full size car. I had multiple Yaris yes, but one time I got a Dodge Caravan, a Fusion Sport V6, a Flex, a Jetta, a Soul, etc.

a little bit like you…

  • I like what I do (software developer)
  • I WFH 95% of the time
  • I’m well paid
  • I’m a consultant so jump from contract to contract, always have job

For android, Sync is excellent, I even bought it, so no ads.

Turns out that my motherboard's WiFi antenna is necessary for Bluetooth to work correctly

I was troubleshooting Bluetooth connection today and I thought that this is somehow related to software (PipeWire, bluez, bluetoothd and all that stuff). But no. Apparently Bluetooth barely works when WiFi antenna is disconnected from my ASUS motherboard....

same frequency, 2.4GHz, same antenna, quite often for chip that does dual wifi/BT the antenna is shared

Same in Canada, at least Quebec, 50% of my taxes go in health care system, I have no family doctor, all doctors are millionaires, nurses make 100k+, people dies in ER after 48h waiting

Education system is a joke. Teachers earn 100k+ too

    Roads are potholes

Canada =/= USA, it’s cheaper. A lot of that money goes to personal insurance IIRC

And it’s not from today, in the 90s a friend of mine was hired for IBM, imagine!!! I don’t think he made a year there, it was already horrible.

For me it was a video of a big fat Hawaiian guy in a pool or something, I saw it for years, hundreds of time, in my “recommended feed”. I now know this is a singer, Israel, but I never ever clicked on the thumbnail, and it always came in my feed, I never knew why, after a few years it disappeared I guess the algorithm has a limit of 2000 print per user or something? At one time it said “ok, this user will not watch it, let’s bother someone else for middle-aged healthy ad” ?
