Now that I'm almost done with supporting landscape mode with @PleaseDontRain I'm realizing that I might be running out of excuses for not having an iPad version. 😳

If you’re going to be in the area for WWDC, the IDHH watch party is back!

So happy to be partnering with @WWDCCommunity again. I first attended one of their events in 2020 and I’m still good friends with many people I met from it. https://mastodon.iosdevhappyhour.com/@iosdevhappyhour/112489896038433526

@hidde @teomatteo89 you troublemaker! I wonder how many people did a double take because of it. 😆

My update just got approved without including a privacy manifest. I thought that was required now? I was expecting to get an email telling me which API’s my app was using that I needed to declare reasons for.

MuseumShuffle,
@MuseumShuffle@mastodon.social avatar

@chrisvasselli I would have thought so too. Did you get an email telling you that they found a potential issue? I did until I ended up filling it out.

@benroyce 100% happened to my vet. Now that they’re owned by a Corp. they’ve started sending me texts “reminding“ me to bring my cat in for a semi annual visit, something I never did before. I told them I have a very young cat and to knock it off. For now I’m sticking to annual visits.

MuseumShuffle, (edited ) to accessibility
@MuseumShuffle@mastodon.social avatar

During her presentation at @DeepDishSwift my jaw hit the floor when Kim Arnett said that not supporting landscape in your app could be an accessibility problem.

I started taking some baby steps towards supporting landscape mode in Please Don't Rain.

Edit: Fixed the background color not extending fully to the left and right by adding .edgesIgnoringSafeArea(.all) to the Color in my .background modifier.

MuseumShuffle,
@MuseumShuffle@mastodon.social avatar

@nickkohrn Yes, thanks but I just figured it out.

I put my bg color with edgesIgnoringSafeArea inside the ScrollView instead out outside it.

MuseumShuffle,
@MuseumShuffle@mastodon.social avatar

@nickkohrn True story: Auto Layout knocked me out of iOS Dev for quite a while. I got under the impression that was the main way apps were developed and the course I took didn't do a good job at all at explaining how to resolve conflicts and constraint issues. When the class was over I lost my resources for help. I was just doing this all for fun and it was the furthest from fun imaginable.

SwiftUI brought me back!

SwiftUI question: I have a fairly simple screen. I have a Text view that I want to always be vertically centered on the screen.

I then want to have other Views above and below that Text view.

Is there an easy way to do that? I don't want to vertically center the entire VStack, just the middle Text view. Or do I need to do some funky stuff with ZStack?

MuseumShuffle,
@MuseumShuffle@mastodon.social avatar

@bardi @podomunro @bens I’m going to bookmark this for later because this subject confuses the hell out of me.

That Microsoft considered protecting DRM content before protecting users in their new keylogger really shouldn’t be shocking, but somehow was. Classic capitalism.

MuseumShuffle,
@MuseumShuffle@mastodon.social avatar

@RobW I opened feedback because it constantly causes me frustration not being able to see the long password I’m typing to get into my Mac. I usually have to do two or three retries.

I actually had another scenario (I also opened feedback for) where my password would not be accepted while a time machine back up was underway. If I was able to actually see what I had typed it would’ve made things so much easier.

MuseumShuffle,
@MuseumShuffle@mastodon.social avatar

@RobW Maybe we can use that extra time to meditate in between retries.

Apple Photos also is doing some sort of plant photo analysis and can tell you what the plant is.. I’ve been using that as I take walks to capture potential new plants for the yard… https://mastodon.macstories.net/@johnvoorhees/112479804417893869

I finally got rid of (donated) our spare twin mattress, but now we’ll have a guest in June. I was thinking of either an air mattress that can sustain its pressure (sensor and internal pump) or a “Japanese floor mattress.”

Shout out to @dvrzan for helping me get a better understanding of how to use localizable Strings.

Thanks to her excellent blog post I was storing them like the top part, but was confused about how to handle Strings with arguments.

She showed me the bottom part is a way to deal with that and the String still shows up in my String Catalog.

What’s the number 1 thing that you want to achieve in the next few months?

For me this will be shipping at least one more course re-explore SwiftData and significantly increase my blog and YouTube contents with both “fundamental” content as well as proper deep dives

So yeah, that’s not just a number 1 thing 😂 if I had to summarize “expand my educational offering”

MuseumShuffle,
@MuseumShuffle@mastodon.social avatar

@lwdupont thanks Lucien. It’s been nice having things like deep dish and WWDC to distract me from it. Hopefully next year I’ll be out of this situation.
