This Texas veterinarian helped crack the mystery of bird flu in cows.

AP reports: "The first calls that Dr. Barb Petersen received in early March were from dairy owners worried about crows, pigeons and other birds dying on their Texas farms. Then came word that barn cats — half of them on one farm — had died suddenly."

I'm taking Shylo for a check-up on Monday. Fasting for 4 to 6 hours? I better eat a big breakfast by 8AM, then. I'm going to get pretty hungry by the afternoon. Shylo watching from her warm Sunday sunbeam as a neighbor dog gets escorted to its outdoor litterbox...

Dr. , a dairy in , , had been caring for sick cows for several weeks in March when she and a colleague finally pinned down the cause of the illness among the herd: the strain of the .

It was the first time the had been detected in .

During that same time, she said, dairy workers also fell ill.

Bird flu cases are likely being missed in dairy workers, experts say

Ridiculously hot in Vienna already this year, 28°C yesterday 😳
This screenshot from an ORF weatherman on the birdsite shows it was even hotter in Innsbruck 😕 🗻🌡
I'll be teaching students about animal health and change again in June and we have new negative examples to discuss every time 😢

Omg. I need the help of a or a or someone who has experience (more than me) because I found THIS in the coop this morning and I have no clue what it could be...😳😱

I know enough to know it cannot be an aborted anything 😁 (I don't have a rooster) but that's exactly what it looks like...🤢
For info, I do have an aging hen who has laid a couple of eggs without shells but wth...?!?! Anyone seen this before?
Pls boost for reach...

My senior dog is suddenly showing worsening signs of twitching and shivering yesterday. Trying to get a slot at the vet’s this morning but I’m worried sick that there’s some neurological problem with her.

Relatedly, Sage Veterinary Center in Campbell said that they will put us on a waiting list to see the veterinarian earlier than our scheduled slot in March, but they will CHARGE US $250 if a cancellation slot shows up and we want to take it.

This is all kinds of wrong. Not only is it just…DISTASTEFUL to charge someone money to backfill a cancellation, it creates a perverse incentive for Sage to not book anyone closer than two weeks, then miraculously produce a cancellation a few days later—tada! Free money.

I think I’m doing BOTH parties a service when I fill a cancellation: I get to see a vet sooner, and they get to get paid for an otherwise empty slot in their schedule. The fact that they charge money for this is greedy and unethical. Whom should I write to to complain about this? The Veterinary Medical Board? The Attorney General’s office? This should be regulated against.

Office watchcat keeping a close eye on Duke while we checked into the vet clinic this morning. Duke was too anxious about being there to even notice it.

Okay, this is an obscure inquiry, but is there a #veterinarian out there who treats #reptiles?

Interesting... vet using Paxlovid for the mysterious dog illness (and claiming it works... obviously, no studies on this). https://www.kcci.com/amp/article/iowa-veterinarian-prescribes-covid-19-drug-for-mystery-dog-illness/45991983
