4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book was absolutely unhinged. That’s the best way I can describe it. The main character was unhinged, the way the book took a turn and nearly became a horror novel was unhinged. The way it ended was unhinged. I was getting so enraged at the main character’s behavior that I was live reacting as I read in a mutual’s DMs who had just finished reading the book the week prior.

Would I read this book again? Probably. Not anytime in the near future though. Aside from the insane plot line, this book touched on themes like interpersonal racism, discrimination, identity and authenticity, representation, cultural appropriation, and cancel culture.

Sarah J. Maas: Crescent City
House of Earth and Blood

I was looking forward to this with excitement. Unfortunately it was a bit disappointing. So what was wrong? Well, for me it looks like there should have been lots of editing. I know, theres pressures: fans are waiting and bills should be paid. Yet, I hoped so much that the book would be written more thoughfull.

More with spoiler alert in next comments.

I was curious as to why Sarah J. Maas had some many fans and is so highly rated on #goodreads.

I read the first Crescent City and quite enjoyed it. Kinda badly written and full of stereotypes, but entertaining.

The second one though?! It's just... trashy and boring. Wow.

@stephanie @bookstodon I'm one of her fans 😆
I haven't yet read Crescent City, so I don't have opinion for it. But other books, I don't know, maybe it's like bluecheese, you might love or hate it.
For me I also have noticed for last couple years, that I actually need something entertaining and comfy for balance everything in life.

My favourite trilogy so far has been A Court of Thorns and Roses / Mist and Fury / of Wings and Ruins.

But haven't enjoyed all her books. For example A Court of Silver Flames and Tower of Dawn were boring and irritating.

@stephanie @bookstodon Also I have to say, that I am not fan of all her characters. For Exemple one of important character in Throne of Glass serie is Rowan, and I think he is actually very toxic dick, thought he should be a such a hero.

Last two weeks I have had kind of Cassandra Clare maraton. I read The Mortal Instruments 1-6 and The Dark Artifices 1-3.

My opinions will be above.

was good enough to hold my interest. It wasn't best one I have read, no eather worst one. There were times when I really enjoyed reading and times, when I was just thinking oh my, how awkward. Unfortunately the Netflix-serie was strongly in my mind influencing my reading experience. I actually hoped I hadn't seen the show (even thought I lived it).

@bookstodon was way better. I loved characters and plot was more interesting. Of course one reason could be that I didn't know what was going to happen.
But I didn't like everything. In the end the problem of the Nephilim and the Parabats was not resolved nicely. I think there were too big holes in the final result, how closure were built. This was reason I wouldn't give 5 stars.

However despite the criticism, I loved the trilogy and hope the next trilogy comes out soon.

My new year's eve. I'm still on the page 1, so I don't know if I like it or not.

@Grizzlysgrowls @bookstodon I actually haven't read (nor watched) Fifty Chades of grey because it didn't sound interesting. So let's see if I like this.

Omom4075,
@Omom4075@mastodon.world avatar

@xanxa @bookstodon Well, bdsm doesn't necessarily bother me. It depends on how it's descriped and what kind of is the plot beside that. I wasn't interested in Fifty shades because it sounded to me like there is nothing else in the story (I sure might be wrong ). And I was understood also that it depicted a bdsm relationship on an unhealthy basis.
However, I haven't read it, so this is just an image that could be correct or wrong.

@bookstodon This really hasn't gotten me excited so far. I'm only on page 25 and I have hated this so far. I try to read further, sometimes the beginning is difficult, although later on the book becomes interesting. The beginning has still been unpleasant.

(I have read other books meanwhile)

Omom4075,

@bookstodon This is so disturbing. I don't like the world. I don't like that this kind of story starts from childhood. This storyline has really disturbing start. I'm not sure do I want to read further. Page 58 of 848. Not sure that this is worth of spending time.

It's annoying that the next book hasn't come out yet and the story should continue. :blob_disapproval:

Yeah, I did like the book and the characters. Didn't like the story unfinished.

@micheleann @bookstodon I agree. I also feel that the development of the plot was a bit forced towards the end. It could well have been calmer and include a nice ending without the gliffhanger. If book is interesting, the next one will also be read with pleasure, without forcing.
Although in many ways I like these books, I don't like the elements familiar from the TV series, where the first chapter rushes into the action as a "sneak peek" and non ending "continues in the next episode".

Novel is a quick read and plot is quite simple.
Surrounding world is not very widely depicted : there could have been more in-depth information on what kind of future world the story takes place in. On the other hand, when things are briefly explained, the story remains light and nice. I've been a bit tired of overly complicated plot patterns, which in the end stumble over their own feet when the threads are no longer in control.

The third book went very smoothly right after others. On the end I liked all the characters, even though many of them seemed boring at the beginning. The plot in general took nice different angles as the book series progressed. So, all in all, in the end, I liked the trilogy.
