Definitely small town for me. I couldn’t live with the noise, pollution, crowds and lack of nature of a big city for long. I wouldn’t want to live completely out in the sticks either though, so a decently sized city should be within at least an hours reach or so. Thankfully such places are pretty easy to find in Germany.
No, why? I take the train to the nearest bigger city maybe once a month, do my shopping/visit the theatre or whatever and go back. If anything, I’m doing the people there a favor, by not driving the apartment prices up even further by living there.
I hope they can get their bank account restored. Certainly seems like a questionable move by the bank, though it’s entirely possible we’re missing more context.
But also, that headline is polemic bullshit that could just as easily come from a tabloid like The Sun.
Apple Vision Pro, as in the product currently on the market, almost certainly no. With its drawbacks and price point, it only appeals to a very small group of people. However, I think Apple intends to build an entire Apple Vision ecosystem and that might eventually be successful if they stick with it. But I think to be a viable product for consumers, it would have to be proper lightweight AR-glasses instead of just a VR headset with very good passthrough. It’ll have to be comfortable enough and have the battery capacity to be worn for many hours. That kind of technology still seems pretty far off though, so I wonder how Apple plans to bridge that gap. It’ll be difficult to keep app developers interested in a product with a very small userbase.

I just joined Lemmy and so far I’m enjoying it. It’s a little bit sparse in terms of content and users, but I think it has a really cool structure, and it feels more human than certain other social media sites....
It’s great to see discussions on Lemmy where both opposing viewpoints are upvoted. You definitely don’t see that on reddit. Seems to be getting less common on Lemmy too though, unfortunately.
The museum island in Berlin. Just so many interesting artifacts from ancient cultures, you could easily spend multiple days there. (Just don’t think too hard about what all those artifacts are doing in Berlin while you’re there…)
Scooter riders definitely seem to be often less safety conscious than cyclists in my experience. Probably 70% of cyclists in my area wear a helmet and 10% at most of scooter riders. I’ve also seen stuff like people riding on sidewalks and up to 3 people on a single scooter.
These are all very valid points, but they don’t explain why there is a noticable difference in behaviour to cyclists, despite their traffic conditions being the exact same (perhaps even more dangerous for scooters). The road being dangerous is also no excuse to become a danger to others by riding on the sidewalk. Of course, it would be best if the traffic conditions were more safe for micromobility. But as long as that’s not the case, the reasonable thing is to protect yourself.
It’s not like they can track what phone model and operating system you have just by you being in the area. I think it could still have to do with the military base though. The phone could have picked up some sort of military frequencies which it couldn’t process and so it crashed.
Honestly one of the AI applications I see real potential in. They can train the NPCs with an extensive backstory and the interactions with them could be way more dynamic than what we currently get for NPCs. Something like a more advanced version of “Starship Titanic”, if anyone remembers that.
The way it works right now is usually over the cloud. I’ve already tried out a bit of “Convai” as a developer, which is a platform where you can create LLM NPCs and put them in Unreal Engine. It’s pretty neat, not perfect, but you can definitely give characters thousands of lines of backstory if you want and they will act in character. They will also remember any conversations a player had with them previously and can refer to them in later convos. Can still be fairly obvious that you’re talking to an LLM though, if you know what to ask and what to look for. Due to its cloud-based nature, there is also some delay between the player input and the response. But it has a lot of potential for dialog systems where you can do way more than just choose between 4 predefined sentences. Especially once running these things locally won’t be a performance-issue.
Again, the character would still be written and defined by a human writer, pouring their soul into it just like they would a “dumb” NPC. I don’t see how that “soul” is lost by giving that human-written character the capability to naturally respond to language.
Just had a bit of a snoop on their profile and yeah… it’s just a tankie being mad that people don’t agree with them here. I imagine getting out of the Lemmygrad bubble must have been traumatic.
Maybe, but IMO a normal communist wouldn’t go around defending modern Russia and China, authoritarian states that honestly couldn’t be further from a communist ideal (despite China being nominally communist).
