Speak easy or not at all

We are called to speak for the weak, for the voiceless, for the victims of our nation and for those it calls ‘enemy,’ for no document from human hands can make these humans any less our brothers.

To be rich should be a crime.

If you're stomping around on social media, badgering those who express contempt for Biden's genocidal aspirations, it's clear you simply haven't reckoned with the human fallout of this catastrophe. Not one bit. Just whistling right past the carnage and the trauma on the way to some imagined future where things are worse for you since that's all that matters within your warped mindscape.

Or worse - and this wouldn't surprise me in the least - you merely think Palestinians had it coming.

The New York Times really said "so-called Palestine"

Provide weapons you know will be used to murder innocents

Provide diplomatic cover and military support to ensure the murder of innocents continues unimpeded

Sit by idly as a humanitarian blockade is erected to starve those same innocents.

Make a big show of pretending you're trying to deliver aid to those traumatized, wounded, now starving innocents

Lie to everyone's faces about your "concern" for the harm being brought to those innocents

Act offended when you get called out on any of it.

"Israel" - its government, its military and its civil society - have all made it abundantly clear by now that they hate Palestinians and have no quarrel with torturing, humiliating, kidnapping, displacing and slaughtering them. So how could anyone who's been paying attention at all, whether that be for decades or even just the last few months, believe that Israel is making a "mistake" when any of the above happens over... and over... and over again?

Unless they're lying, of course.

And ask yourself what kind of organization engages in this fatuous, insulting charade on a daily basis, as a matter of policy?

The good kind?

Shebeencounter,
@Shebeencounter@mastodon.world avatar

Even if you think "eliminating Hamas" is an accessible outcome and even if you think "eliminating Hamas" is a net benefit to the region, the world, etc. there is no moral argument to be made that this outcome is worth the wholesale displacement, brutalization, slaughter and traumatization of more than 2 million people in pursuit of that narrow and more than a little dubious goal.

And anyone that pursues it is telling you who they are, on a daily basis, especially when they lie about it.

Statements from countries in the global North about "regrettable" or "horrifying" outcomes occurring during a rolling genocide that they have either done nothing halt, or worse, have actively fueled, should be viewed as nothing more than counterrevolutionary propaganda. Please stop treating them as acts of bravery or indications of a policy reversal - it's ass covering at best, presumably so they can get back to the business of profiting off death.

That the United States is accusing anyone of acting "unilaterally" is the most fatuous posture imaginable.

The Veto Cowboys at the UN, the scourge of international democratic controls, wielder of the oppressive economic embargo and global leader in attributable deaths per annum has thoughts on collaboration and peace. Got it.

Huh - So turns out it absolutely is 'All about the Benjamins'

"A review of campaign contributions, philanthropy, and public statements reveals that over one third of the president’s top tier funders — those giving in excess of $900,000 to the Biden Victory Fund — appear to see little nuance in the conflict and show overwhelming sympathy for Israel, at times verging into outright hostility to Palestinians and anti-Muslim bigotry."

Here is a fundamental problem with American politics: people don't trust Democrats. They don't trust Republicans either. They don't trust the media. They don't trust corporations. They don't trust any of our institutions.

Why? Because they keep getting fucked and nobody seems to care.

So you can say, "Not voting for Biden and letting Trump win will make everything worse." Because it's true! But it's not persuasive to people who things are just going to keep getting worse anyway.

Shebeencounter,
@Shebeencounter@mastodon.world avatar

@gwynnion It isall getting worse anyway though, right? Does anyone honestly believe that Clinton, Obama or Biden made the world a better place?

I'd argue that each of them ultimately and objectively made us all worse off.

Shebeencounter,
@Shebeencounter@mastodon.world avatar

@gwynnion but there's the macro level, too, right? Those iterative, and even objectively positive policies, will be entirely undone as a result of inflationary policy, the long, debilitating march of Covid, or (coming soon!) ongoing ecological/environmental displacement and impending resource scarcity which untouchable bipartisan defense/infrastructure/energy policies are bringing to fruition.

It's not enough to stand against genocide after genocide begins happening. You have to stand against the conditions that produce genocide.

Colonialism, industrial arms production, economic embargoes, systematic dispossession, embedded surveillance infrastructure, permanent occupation, forced demilitarization of one party and the hyper militarization of another -

The inevitability of October 7th and its aftermath was determined nearly a century ago.

What this demonstrates - and pay the fuck attention - is what Biden will do, and it's what he always has done, when the chips are down, the consensus gets rattled, the supply chains get disrupted and services can no longer be rendered as they once were -

He will not seek "creative solutions." He will send in the dogs to protect the pigs and they will beat your ass into the pavement and he will THANK them for it.

You want people to vote for that?

Shebeencounter, to random

Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and Joe Biden all qualified as "the lesser of two evils" at one point or another and yet, each one of them, to a man, objectively made the world a worse place.

Shebeencounter,

The United States has achieved "peace" in exactly zero countries across the planet over the last 80 years. One could argue that their primary national interest lies in stoking violence in order to support its economy which quite literally runs on weapons manufacturing.

So for these same people to be claiming that only they know the path to peace and that anyone who disagrees risks somehow making things worse is unbelievably arrogant and tone deaf.

It's been very amusing watching Americans dismiss "state-sponsored media" in other countries all while the supposed "Paper of Record" has been caught carrying water, and repeatedly, not just for the Pentagon but also for the flagrantly fascist allies of the United States.

A lot of you are confusing "Trump" with the "Foundational, Defining Character of the United States," while also failing to bear witness to just how much of Biden's entire fucking worldview is infused with, governed and animated by that very same character, and frankly, it would be embarrassing if it weren't so destructive.

Israel has the right to do whatever the fuck it wants, within the bounds of good taste, which to an American 'leader' is what, exactly?

Starve, just not to death?
Lose a limb, but not your life?
Lose your home, but the tent gets to stay in working order?
Lose your homeland, but hey, here's a nice patch of desert to raise your dead sister's kids...

Never Again means Never Again, but actually is this truly a "Never Again" situation because I dont know, I have questions and besides, mass slaughter does have a time and a place. But beyond that, acknowledging the reality of a potential Never Again scenario, well it makes a little 'queasy' if I'm being honest, so 4 months just isn't enough time to evaluate what's happening...

Leadership demands urgency.

Leadership requires vigilance.

And its mandate is premised on having courage.

I can count on one hand the number of "leaders" in the US who have demonstrated these traits, and not one of them is in the Senate or in the White House.
