Definitely a good call to wait until you have a decent rig… its optimization is NOT one of its selling points lol.
But if you’ve got a machine that can handle its clusterfuck of code, it’s an absolutely gorgeous game – here’s a good short showcase of some of its scenery / critters:
Good luck with school! I’m doing the whole full-time-work + part time college thing right now too, so I definitely appreciate the time management clusterfuck… and Ark is one of the games that can absolutely MURDER your free time (no shit, I have over 6k hours logged). Keep it bookmarked in your brain though, or wishlist it and pick it up when it goes on some insane sale.
I wouldn’t say I’d feel ripped off, but for my broke ass, cost is probably the most heavily weighed feature of my food. Ethical and ecological concerns come in 2nd. To really push consumers toward meat alternatives, those alternatives need to, at the very least, cost the same as meats.
Edit: Thanks so much for all your awesome recommendations and feedback. Based on sheer popularity it looks like my next 3 franchises will be Mass Effect (5 votes), Dead Space (3 votes) and Batman Arkham (3 votes). I love Lemmy!...
If you’re a fan of the Elder Scrolls franchise, there’s a trilogy made by an indie dev crew called SureAI (just game devs, nothing to do with AI, lol) that are built from the assets of the Elder Scrolls games.
Enderal is built from Skyrim, Nehrim from Oblivion, and… idr the Morrowind one.
These games are there own lore-universe, and have nothing at all to do with Elder Scrolls. Different characters, races, terrain, voice actors, music, etc.
Enderal is fucking incredible. The other two are decent.
Free on steam, provided you have the corresponding Bethesda game in your library for the SureAI ones to cannibalize.

…aight so I’m fucking stupid or something and can’t figure out how to link to another user’s comment (it’s just the chain link icon literally on the comment right? …but when I click that it directs to a different comment… is this a bug or am I really just stupid?) but I don’t want to just steal this guy’s work, some I’m linking to his profile instead:
We’ve been seeing this for 6 years. At this rate I think it’s more likely he ‘may’ succumb to his decades-long suicide by cheeseburger before he faces any actual consequences for his crimes.
We? No. We’ll just be uncomfortable. Our kids? They’re going to slowly cook to death as they’re running out of food/water/oxygen. Or, y’know, get blown up in one of the wars fighting over scraps of food/water/oxygen.
But look on the bright side: we’re on track to beat last fiscal year’s profit margin! If we do that, we’ll get a free company branded pencil and one ticket to use some leave-without-pay at you manager’s discretion – and the regional manager gets another vacation home!!
The whole notion of not wishing death or harm to people in general makes sense… but to evil people? in power? who use that power to inflict suffering upon millions? Naw that’s a problem that doesn’t deserve tolerance.
I see that rule posted a lot, but imo it doesn’t really apply to people in power. Infact, trying to apply it to that context is actually dangerous… take Trump as a case study: he’s done immeasurable damage to the US and consistently skirts any kind of real consequence because we just keep giving him the village-idiot pass.
Better to assume every action and outcome are calculated and intentional when we’re talking shit like oligarchs or politicians. Even if they sincerely are just a dumbass, hold them to that same standard, as we really ought to disincentivize dumbasses from running corporations/countries/etc anyway.
Opinions: What is a movie you genuinely like, that is rated below 60% on rotten tomatoes? (xkcd.com)
Inspired by the linked XKCD. Using 60% instead of 50% because that’s an easy filter to apply on rottentomatoes....
