Long-time metal fan (Quiet Riot's Metal Health on the mainstream top 10, anyone?).

Enjoying the great Fediverse metal community, and exploring the bands and sub-genres I've missed over the years.

Currently dipping a bruised toe in the waters of death metal and black metal.

Sometimes, when I discover a great album of a band I never listened to before, I don't dare to listen to their other stuff because I am afraid I won't like it.

Is it only me?

TG_Esq,
@TG_Esq@metalhead.club avatar

@derthomas I do this too. I also get nervous when an artist I love has a new album coming out, in case I don't think it's as good as the rest of their work.

Here in the future we've clocked over to #BlackMetalMonday under the steady hand of @HailsandAles.. I'm listening to De Syv Dødssynder by Sakna.

Described as black / folk metal, it was recorded by one-man act Solemn before his death in 2011, but recently remixed and only released last week.

Good if you like your metal melodic with occasional washes of synth and even unexpected piano accordion.

For @loewe's , here is Embrace Me, You Child by Carly Simon.

A tender and powerful song about the innocence of childhood and the loss of a parent. The production stands up so well, with layers of strings over a rock band supporting the expression of her amazing voice.

In the 1970s and 1980s she produced a string of brilliant albums, with songs steeped in love, sexuality, nostalgia, childhood, experience, regret and growing older.

That moment when a metalhead hangs their head and confesses to never having listened to a major band that has loads of belting material and they think you're gonna laugh.
Hell dude! I ain't gonna laugh, I'm stoked that I get to listen to it again with most new ears with you, and that you've given me an excuse to get all excited about them all over again 🎸

Plus we've all got 'holes' in our music knowledge, mine are so big I can't even see out of them. Haha!

Call out: Are there any metalheads in Australia who'd like to band together for a batch of stickers to spread the metalhead.club word down here?

“A soul rendered void … abandoned you die in my arms”

I highly doubt this song will ever get the full band re-record treatment as it is over fifteen minutes long.

From my Voidtouched solo release, this is a song about my interpersonal horrors. I know I’m far from easy to love, work with, or even acknowledge and this work makes no allusions to anything otherwise.

A brutal song from a brutal release, this is “Apathy.”

Ah memories. I remember not even Shooting Star prepared me for Apathy, the first few times I listened to the Voidtouched EP.

I love this genre, where this is said in admiration:

"The true horror of metal at its darkest and most intense was only just beginning to reveal itself, and for those who allied themselves to the genre’s nascent dark side, the incremental discovery of what was possible and how far into the depths of the sonic abyss our favourite musicians could take us was an astonishing and compelling rollercoaster ride with no clear destination to anticipate."

I own all my favourite Maiden albums on vinyl apart from Number of the Beast because I own it on cassette and feel silly buying it again 🫣

@HailsandAles I've bought multiple versions of some favourite things (Powerslave, Blade Runner, Ziggy Stardust, Exile on Main Street, etc.) I refuse to feel bad about it. 🙂

@HailsandAles Allow me to encourage you! Although the kids tell me that cassettes are fashionable again, so maybe lean into it. 😉

I haven't spent much time on Reddit over all, but I have dipped into some of the metal threads there over the last few weeks. It's made me again deeply grateful for the community here on , and the concentric circles of music fans around it.

None of boundary marking, and direct or implied challenges to like the "right" genres / bands / albums.

Instead a friendly and accepting atmosphere, and a shared love of the music. Thanks one and all.

I’ve torn down a lot of walls in the past six weeks. I bought a weighted stuffed frog to help me through flashbacks, and it is a real photogenic sort.

What does a sleepy castle in a small village in Lower Austria have to do with Azerbaijan's most famous novel?

How come a German-Russian jude who converted to Islam and an Austrian baroness into play?

And who is Kurban Said? 🧵

Leave work on Friday night, and what do I find on my way home but the new single from Judas Priest- Trial By Fire.

Perhaps not as instantly memorable as Panic Attack, but there's still a lot to like, and another reason to look forward to the new album.
