@elhipernauta So far I only got one and gave it to a friend, a Canadian of all people, who said "Cool" and hasn't posted anything there yet. Which puts me further down the line of the Get New Invites Algorithm apparently.
And really, Mastodon is better. Bluesky feels like going out with friends on a Tequila bender, but you're 47, not 22.It's just sparkly lights and dopamine triggering FOMO everywhere.
@cliffwade@og I'm not sure how but they let me in off the waiting list a month ago. Do I hate it? No. Is it set up around & building a community that is reliant on spiking my dopamine levels with a constant flow of shitposts & drama? Absolutely. I guess some people like/need that. I do not anymore. Fediverse/Mastodon is a better approach for me. And for me after being there for a few weeks am mostly convinced it's just another Dorsey Dumpster Fire with questionable intent out of the gate.
Since some people have asked me, here's a quick thread on initial experience comparison between Bluesky and the fediverse. It's important to note that this comparison is somewhat absurd by default because Bluesky is still tiny & unproven, but there's interest so I'm happy to share what I've observed. Also, I don't get into protocol differences because honestly who cares. So:
@barbarakb@anildash What I don’t like about it is how the developers are playing favorites with the invites; or how some people begging for them are getting them. Feels like there's an "in crowd" already and it's kind of icky. That's already part of the platform culture and that's not going to go away.
@barbarakb@anildash Like I really do not like the vibes this stuff at Bluesky gives off. As much as people say Mastodon has learning curve etc etc at least it doesn’t exude the cool kids peaking in high school energy. This is People Producing Content As Product Pavlovian vibes.
@BlackAzizAnansi I had gotten an invite and I've been lurking for a week or so, and you are not missing anything. It's basically a smarmy little clique of Dorsey fanbois, and a weird number of Japanese and Persian language posts. Always a bunch of Pepe memes on the lowdown too.
