My PC is doing a weird thing.
The same weird thing it did less than a year ago before I replaced my hard drive and reinstalled the OS.

  1. It’s not showing file changes in explorer. As in I can create a new folder and nothing happens. Go out of where I’m at and go back in and there’s the folder. Same with pasting files.

  2. It’s not shutting down. It gets to the point of the monitors going to sleep then just doesn’t turn off.

Personally, I’m all for Threads federation. I think it’ll be really good for Mastodon.

I have spent a very happy few hours back in the world of Aloy.

I’ve been waiting a long while for this to come to PC and so far it’s definitely worth it. It is stunningly pretty.

I don’t want to go to bed or do work tomorrow.

I am blown away by the mocap.
Also, I am obsessed with this guy’s chest. Hair and realistic nipples!
How far we’ve come.

Troggie,
@Troggie@mendeddrum.org avatar

@DJDarren they were excellent nipples.

Often I’ll convince myself that this cat only sits on my lap because he’s cold and I’m warm.

Then I’ll finish a lesson and turn around to see him curled up on a chair he would never normally sleep on, just because it’s close to me. 🥺

D’s paycheck covers most of our outgoings. He gets paid on the last Friday of the month, which usually just about also covers 4 weekly shops.

A few times a year we have “5 week months” where due to the maddeningly uneven calendar, there are 5 whole weeks between paydays. Things get a bit tight but it doesn’t happen too often.

Because the last Friday this month happens to be Good Friday, his employer is paying a week early, making April and May both 5 week months.

Bollocks.

Does anyone need any odd jobs doing?

  • I love boring data entry.
  • I’m an ok copy writer.
  • I know my way around a piano and some other instruments.
  • I own a decent microphone and don’t mind talking at it.

I only have evidence of some of these but I’m also reasonably priced.

Boosts appreciated. Also if anyone knows any appropriate tags. Thanks!

“Give them my love”

My mum says this a fair bit.

I think it’s an older generation thing to say when you’re not close enough with the intended target of the love but you’re talking to someone who is.
But I’ve never been sure what the goal is.

“This person who you are aware of but don’t know well / doesn’t feel comfortable contacting you right now (ie you’re in hospital)
wants you to know they’re thinking of you” is the closest I can fathom.

Troggie,
@Troggie@mendeddrum.org avatar

@purplepadma so is it just a thing you say? Or do you expect the person you’re saying it to to actually pass on the message? And how do you expect the end recipient to react?

Troggie,
@Troggie@mendeddrum.org avatar

@purplepadma ohh ok, so it’s like a conversation starter that you’re giving someone else? Or that you’d like them to be thinking of you in return?

Another book finished and very much enjoyed - A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking by T. Kingfisher.
Brilliant. Thank you to everyone who recommended it!

Next up (not actually following a theme, honest) - A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula Le Guin.

Taken through a rainy windscreen while stopped at traffic lights on the way home (I was a passenger).

Can anyone suggest a plausible reason why the web version of Numbers doesn’t have a Sort option, while the desktop version does?

Screenshot of the macOS version of Numbers. There are three tabs available, ‘Categories’, ‘Sort’, and ‘Filter’. ‘Sort’ is selected.

I would like to tell you a story in screenshots.

This morning while sipping my coffee in bed on a lazy Sunday, I saw a person on TikTok talking enthusiastically about a show that has good autistic / neurodiverse representation.

I google it. It has good reviews.
Ok, where could I watch it? 🧵

As games get more and more pricey I really wish free demos were still a thing.

There are games I’d love to try but I’m hesitant for one reason or another and I can’t shell out £50-70 to find out it’s not my thing.

is one. I don’t think I’d like the top down party aspect of it but I’ve seen so many glowing reviews, I’d love to find out I’m wrong.

Generally I wait a few years and maybe grab things in the sales. I just wish that wasn’t the only option.

Troggie,
@Troggie@mendeddrum.org avatar

It was also nice when you used to be able to borrow games off people.

Of course that was back when you could own physical copies of things. Actually own them! What a world.

If buying isn’t owning then piracy isn’t stealing obviously.
I could take to the high seas but that’s not really the point.

Meh, I sound so old.

For , here is my Nan with her poodle Paul.

This photo was taken for and printed in the local Newspaper because apparently Paul insisted on walking across the road on two legs and… it was a very small rural town in Somerset.
