Casual writer for FilmStories.co.uk.

More #writing can be found on my blog with film reviews but there are game, books and other reviews as well.

There's a 3 part series on Kevin Costner's Waterworld and some trips down memory lane with pieces on the ZX Spectrum, VHS tapes and more.

When I'm not writing, I love watching #film, #reading or playing #games on PC, PlayStation 3, 4 or 5.

Recently self diagnosed as autistic.

I look forward to chatting with you. 😊

Back in the 90s, when I bought the first Kerrang! compilation album, it contained a song called Control by Puddle of Mudd.

I took my boom box to Reading festival that year, and we used to sing that song out loud as it has a lyric that reads, “I love the way you smack my ass”

I bought their album based on that one song and really enjoyed it.

Now, over twenty years later, I'm listening to the rest of their work.

Very agreeable grunge.

Now, I've finished importing my film lists to coincide with my blog reviews, my last four watched is looking normal again!

Brexit, harder to import/export. Cost of food going up.
Can't get a GP appointment.
Can't get a dentist appointment
NHS on verge of collapse.
Raw sewage in our rivers, lakes, and seas.
Cost of living crisis.
etc.

But no, it's all about immigrants, trans people and a labour woman who possibly didn't pay a £1.5k tax bill over ten years ago.

[screams internally] get them out!

I know it's a bit of an echo chamber in here, but now is a real chance to change the country.

The real problem now is that Starmer will likely become Prime Minister and everyone will expect him to fix things overnight, which won't be possible.

“A leading Tory Brexiteer says an election now would be “madness”. Why go when the Conservatives are 20 points behind in the polls, goes the thinking.”"

Well, seeing as you guys have royally fucked over the country, mainly for your own profit, and nothing works and is about to collapse, what do you think you could possibly do in six months to turn around 14 years of destruction?

Had to get one of the wife's PC building friends over to figure out why we couldn't get the PC working.

Long, long story short. My son ordered the AIO cooler with RGB as the plain one wasn't available. The new motherboard has 12v RGB, the cooler uses 5v.

Also the CPU was running at 80°c before the friend found a bios setting to run the cooler properly.

All working but no RGB. But I have found a 12v to 5v adapter on Amazon, need to see if my son is bothered about Flashy lights.

Good morning my mastodonian friends, it's Saturday!

Right, taking the youngest swimming in an hour, then I plan on using the rest of the day to build my Lego ECTO1.

No Letterboxd Friday from me as the recent activity includes film entries you've tinkered with. I've spent the last week getting my profile up to date with all my reviews.

Also, my blog received new reviews of Titan A.E., Rebel Moon: The Scargiver and Beowulf & Grendel. Perhaps something to accompany your morning coffee. 😊

I have 150 films in an Excel list. Is there any easy way I can use this to download the poster for each?

Otherwise, making my film review list more beautiful is going to be rather tedious.

Unless anyone has a suggestion how to make this page more user-friendly / pretty?

I am constricted to the confines of a free WordPress account.

TIL There is an alternative front end for IMDb.

If like me, you're always searching for film information, even though there is the alternative of TMDB, sometimes IMDb has more.

The problem is, IMDb has videos, ads and other crap to push in your face.

libremdb is an alternative front end that gives you the information without the bollox.

You can even get an extension to redirect automatically when you mindlessly type IMDb into the browser bar.

Paramount have made an odd decision with their 4K release of Once Upon A Time In The West.

Bill goes into fine detail about the film and why that could cause issues for a digital presentation.

Paramount seems to be saving money and the film has been compressed onto a 66gb disc.

If you have access to the Kaleidoscope service, you can download the film which comes in at 87gb!

Compressing the film by a ⅓ to fit on a disc hasn't helped the quality.

Yesterday's builds were a success. 😊 The use of the light brick in the telephone box works really well but it's best seen in person.

Of course I love the Delorean but if I had to complain ever so slightly, you have to dismantle the back of the car if you want to stick on Mr Fusion. The same for the 1885 time circuits which requires a change to the bonnet.

The bonnet also lifts up to reveal the plutonium box and the hoverboard.

I'll build the Part II version in a few weeks. 🥰

— Weird Al Yankovic's film, UHF, is coming to 4K.

Me: Yay!

— It's being released by Shout Factory in the US.

Me: Oh bugger, import costs.

— It comes with posters, magnets, and other pointless gubbins.

Me: I just want the film! Who needs a 6” high UHF Remote Control Stress Relief Collectible!? What are the extras?

— Don't know, they're currently in production and the set will cost $130.

Me: ARRGGHHH!

#NowWatching The Cable Guy (1996)

I haven't seen this since VHS, I believe. If I recall correctly, the film was a disappointment for many who weren't expecting a darker turn from Carrey.

@Tusky Hi gang. I'm assuming it's a beta problem, but I've noticed that not every toot can be translated. For example, the one I've linked to below is obviously french but the translate option doesn't appear for me. Also, some friends Dutch toots don't translate either.

Review | La Planete Sauvage (1973)

A beautiful and surreal piece of sci-fi animation from 1970s (possibly drug induced) French director Rene Laloux. 😁

As a side note, I'm becoming more comfortable bashing out these reviews in a few hours, when previously I would analyse them over two evenings at least.

I hope you guys are enjoying them too and the quality hasn't diminished in doing so.

To celebrate Alien Day yesterday, the director of the upcoming Alien: Romulus, Fede Alvarez, posted a short video of himself having fun with a radio controlled face hugger on set.

To save you having to visit THAT social media site, here's the video.

A man holding a typical radio controller has fun making a face hugger, a creature like a large spider, run around the floor.
