There's a 3 part series on Kevin Costner's Waterworld and some trips down memory lane with pieces on the ZX Spectrum, VHS tapes and more.

The GameBoy had some amazing games. 🥰
I wasn't quite ready to let this system go, after speeding through Mario Land 2. So I played SML 1 too (first try, no savestates, 35 minutes) and I'm now replaying #DonkeyKong. I forgot how clever the game is at showing what you can do and how it keeps adding new things all the way until the end. I'm now at the second to last stage and I still haven't reached the "let's get this over with" state. 😁

@mforester my sister had a Gameboy and I only remember two games. Tetris.Duh! The other was a TMNT game which I really enjoyed.

I remember showing someone at school how to play some parts of the game on his Gameboy and ended up completing the game during the lunch break.

Damn, gotta go to work. I just started writing my review of Scargiver and you know it's going to be another 1000 word epic with just three points to make.

@Floppy oh no, I'll put it on my to-do list. It was good though wasn't it.

Sat down with Hubbie and the kids for a nice Sunday afternoon tea in the sun.

Next door struck up their strimmer then cut their grass! Talk about timing!

(They always cut it in the middle of the day in the sun. I was always told this is a big no-no and it can kill the grass???)

UKFilmNerd,
@UKFilmNerd@mastodon.me.uk avatar

@hobbitswife I love the smell of cut grass, it always reminds me of my dad cutting the lawn with his boxy old red and black, black and decker mower.

So imagine the conflict when I learnt that the cut grass smell is produced by the grass because it's suffered dangerous trauma and it's trying to heal itself. 😬

I have 150 films in an Excel list. Is there any easy way I can use this to download the poster for each?

Otherwise, making my film review list more beautiful is going to be rather tedious.

Unless anyone has a suggestion how to make this page more user-friendly / pretty?

I am constricted to the confines of a free WordPress account.

TIL There is an alternative front end for IMDb.

If like me, you're always searching for film information, even though there is the alternative of TMDB, sometimes IMDb has more.

The problem is, IMDb has videos, ads and other crap to push in your face.

libremdb is an alternative front end that gives you the information without the bollox.

You can even get an extension to redirect automatically when you mindlessly type IMDb into the browser bar.

Paramount have made an odd decision with their 4K release of Once Upon A Time In The West.

Bill goes into fine detail about the film and why that could cause issues for a digital presentation.

Paramount seems to be saving money and the film has been compressed onto a 66gb disc.

If you have access to the Kaleidoscope service, you can download the film which comes in at 87gb!

Compressing the film by a ⅓ to fit on a disc hasn't helped the quality.

As I was working on that latest GamesMasters issue, I came across the article for Just Cause 2 and remembered just how much I enjoyed the chaos that game brought, so I decided to hunt down the complete edition of Just Cause 3.

UKFilmNerd,
@UKFilmNerd@mastodon.me.uk avatar

@OutofPrintArchive Just Cause 3 and 4 were great fun and the physics were totally bonkers.

UKFilmNerd,
@UKFilmNerd@mastodon.me.uk avatar

@OutofPrintArchive Crackdown 1 and I think 2 were great. However, I think they were cheeky in boosting the sales of the second game (I think) because it included a demo of one of the many Halo games.)

Yesterday's builds were a success. 😊 The use of the light brick in the telephone box works really well but it's best seen in person.

Of course I love the Delorean but if I had to complain ever so slightly, you have to dismantle the back of the car if you want to stick on Mr Fusion. The same for the 1885 time circuits which requires a change to the bonnet.

The bonnet also lifts up to reveal the plutonium box and the hoverboard.

I'll build the Part II version in a few weeks. 🥰

@OutofPrintArchive That's really interesting. Did they issue a DVD the size of a GameCube disc? That can't have held much video, half an hour? Especially as the GC can't play DVDs.

Also, I waited ages for that Action Reply disc to play imported games. It took them quite a while to get it working, if I remember correctly, as the release date kept being pushed back. And it was given away free!

I imported a NASCAR racer and one other because they featured the GBA link feature I really loved.

— Weird Al Yankovic's film, UHF, is coming to 4K.

Me: Yay!

— It's being released by Shout Factory in the US.

Me: Oh bugger, import costs.

— It comes with posters, magnets, and other pointless gubbins.

Me: I just want the film! Who needs a 6” high UHF Remote Control Stress Relief Collectible!? What are the extras?

— Don't know, they're currently in production and the set will cost $130.

Me: ARRGGHHH!

The Cable Guy (1996)

I haven't seen this since VHS, I believe. If I recall correctly, the film was a disappointment for many who weren't expecting a darker turn from Carrey.

@Tusky Hi gang. I'm assuming it's a beta problem, but I've noticed that not every toot can be translated. For example, the one I've linked to below is obviously french but the translate option doesn't appear for me. Also, some friends Dutch toots don't translate either.

Review | La Planete Sauvage (1973)

A beautiful and surreal piece of sci-fi animation from 1970s (possibly drug induced) French director Rene Laloux. 😁

As a side note, I'm becoming more comfortable bashing out these reviews in a few hours, when previously I would analyse them over two evenings at least.

I hope you guys are enjoying them too and the quality hasn't diminished in doing so.
