Hey all, I hope you're doing alright.

I just wanted to give a big thank you to @geekaren for the Tempest Weather Station.

Setup was very simple, and I've found the accuracy to be much better than I originally expected it to be in terms of temperature, pressure and humidity (Unsure of wind speed accuracy but it seems to be accurate from my estimation this far).

Hey y'all. Just wanted to do a little check in. I hope you're all doing okay. Try and enjoy yourselves this weekend, alright? There's been a lot of bad and anxiety filled news this week (and I'd be lying if I said there isn't more bad news to come).

Try and keep the news off this weekend if you can (there's exceptions ofc), just trust me on this one. Nothing good is going to be happening. Take care of yourselves. Hang in there, the wild ride ahead is just beginning so take the time you have now to rest so you're ready for whatever comes your way later.

So uh... about the radar site status script I haven't been able to keep running...

Normal people probably set up their python scripts to be used with systemd as a service. I have been using nohup since it's a bit quicker for testing.

It should've still worked, right?

Well, when you forget to add the & sign to the end of a nohup command, the answer to that is nope 🙃 🥴

So Otis went from a tropical storm to a category 5 hurricane in about a day.

From my understanding, this is the first category 5 Pacific hurricane to make landfall on record.

I have no words.

Edit: I wanted to make a clarification that the escalation from tropical storm to category 5 hurricane happened in 12 hours, HALF A DAY! I just learned this from @EricFielding

Ryan Hall Y'all on YouTube describing this as a hurricane jump scare is accurate.

People keep telling me to watch "Twister", but it's never on TV or free streaming. But, I'm too cheap to "rent" it on Amazon Prime for $3.79. However, it was $2.99 at the local Goodwill. 🤔

I made an observation about myself lately. As I age, the vocabulary that I use off the top of my head becomes more and more limited and often repeated. I wonder why that is 🤔

I don't read books as much as I used to, but I read a lot of articles and and go through a lot of documentation (among a wide variety of topics and projects)

If I want to write a story, I have to sit there and think for an extended period of time to get the right words out.

Is this normal, or is this something that happens naturally as we age? I wonder if some of the medication I'm on can make my general thought processes more difficult.

@douglasvb That's another possibility that I didn't even consider. It feels like mine gets worse and worse, and now I'm starting to feel like it's rapidly accelerating.

@ai6yr @douglasvb This is good advice. (Thanks!) I'm going to start checking out some E-Books, and probably do some more walking with my son.

If things don't improve after trying some of these things out, I'll see about talking to one of my doctors about it.

@douglasvb @ai6yr Ugh I'm so sorry to hear that. At least we're not alone. Hopefully there's something we can do to help reverse it (I'm personally gonna start with what Ben said). If I see any articles or talk about potential solutions, I'll be sure to tag you in it or share it with you.

I was going through some old photos and I found one from 2015 that still applies today. I wanted to share it with everyone that might be starting to go through weather models.

It helps explain why models can be inaccurate sometimes :)
