@grootinside This is expected, as the other solid colored lines are decadal averages, which smooth out the day-to-day variability. If you look very closely, there are thin gray lines, which display each year from 2002 to 2023 and are also very zigzagy.

🚨 Methane (CH₄; potent greenhouse gas) also reached another preliminary record high value for its latest monthly update (December 2023 - 1932.2 ppb)

December 2022's global methane abundance was 1924.6 ppb. Data freely available from https://gml.noaa.gov/ccgg/trends_ch4/

While most of the region surrounding the sea ice edge is experiencing above average sea surface temperatures as of March 2024, the record ocean warmth globally has not been clearly observed in the Arctic region.

March 2024 observed unusually high levels of sea ice in the Sea of Okhotsk. Elsewhere, most areas were near or below average (especially the Gulf of St. Lawrence).

Spring (phenological) arrived anomalously early across much of the contiguous United States. It was even record early for some areas along the northern gradient of the onset maps.
