Got double trouble?

Gold = Red flag warning and high wind warning
Red = Red flag warning
Light brown = High wind warning

For details from NOAA: Open map, zoom in, click colored area. If you clicked in a gold area then scroll down in the popup since each type of warning has its own link for details.

Solstice sunrise sequence on Sierra Blanca peak in southern New Mexico.

First photo was taken in twilight, before sunrise.

Second photo was taken less than a minute after the first rays hit the snowy summit.

Third photo was taken when the intermediate terrain was getting first sun.

Final photo was taken when the foreground ridge caught first sun.

Note how not just the color of sunlight changes, but also the sky's color, and the growing contrast between sunny summit and shadowed terrain.

First sunlight on the summit. It's orange/pink hues only shine on the snow covered summit. All other terrain remains in shadow. The sky is also orange/pink.
Sun has risen enough to shine on intermediate terrain 20 miles away. The summit is brighter and the sunlight is yellowish.
Sun has risen enough to shine on the top of the foreground ridge. Sunlight is only slightly yellow. The shadows on the terrain are deep and blue tinted.

Moonrise over dark conifers in the Sacramento mountains of southern New Mexico.

A few ragged clouds shade the moon and catch the last weak pink rays of the sun.

A backdoor cold front is pushing across the southern flanks of Sierra Blanca in the Sacramento mountains of southern New Mexico.

A low layer of clouds is trying to move west (to the left), against the prevailing winds. Tonight those winds will weaken and the cold front will move over us as we sleep.

The sun will set soon, and its yellow-orange rays shine on the advancing low clouds as they slowly cross the highest ridge. Conifers in the foreground are illuminated by the sun. The sky above Sierra Blanca peak is filled with scattered clouds, some in sunlight, some in shadow.
