Google is too big and needs to be broken up. We have entire areas like watches and cars where stuff is just laughably ancient or poorly designed. To my knowledge, android auto doesn’t even dynamically scale by screen size, it depends on google and the car maker working together to determine the right size. Cannot control features like AC or heating either.

When you get these mega corps like facebook, google, airlines, train companies, or food/drink companies, they buy up all the competition and then run them into the ground. We are down to like…two very stagnant smartphone OSs now, too.

You have to have regulations against this stuff, or greed takes over until the goverment mandates that stuff like insulin and inhalers are capped at $35/mo so these cunts don’t charge $400 for lifesaving medicine.

Same goes for the housing and rental market. Break up these large companies that buy up all the housing and apartments and slap algorithmic rent and purchasing options on them.

Inb4 “both parties are the same”.

While I hate stuff like these rollbacks, we are already starting to see EVs save people money on gas and service, and they are stupidly fast compared to ICE counterparts. That’s something Americans of all stripes can get behind.

Once I tried an ebike, I realized I never wanted to go back to gas engines. So fast, so much torque, and pennies to charge vs $70 gas tanks at Costco (even more at a normal gas station). It just makes economic sense to run PEVs in all major urban areas in addition to mass transit.

With traffic and some protected bike lanes, even a conventional bike can almost beat a car in a 7-14 mile drive in my city. An ebike makes it even easier.

The best advice I can give you is to stop actively looking and just have fun. Join mountain biking groups, hop on Meetup and do fun things in your city or state, and make friends naturally. The healthiest relationships stem from natural friendships because you build up a base of stuff in common and have a lot of trust before you ever make the jump to “do you wanna go out with me?”

All else fails, you can join singles adventure clubs which also look quite fun. The best relationships I’ve had with men and women were from natural friendships. The most awkward and short ones were generally from dating apps or where they just didn’t have much in common with me.

I met my SO through playing 1,000 hours of a video game with them during the pandemic, constantly being on VC with them, then going on a really fun ski trip with them for about a week. I got to learn their habits, temperament, how they handle conflict, etc all over a long period of time. And a lot of my other friends matched in similar ways.

For what it’s worth, I notice now when people are kinda hoping to like…date or something vs just be friends. Their body language and behaviors are just ever so slightly different than those that just want to be friends. I think when you aren’t looking, people notice that you are more relaxed and don’t put up walls as much. Might be one reason why it’s easier to make friends as a kid, who knows, though.

You must have a fucking amazing ass if that was the thing that cinched it, haha. Gotta give her props to ask, though.

Russia and China always do this shit, it’s going to be very problematic when one of their poorly trained pilots screws up and kills a bunch of people and themselves.

As China and Iran hunt for dissidents in the US, the FBI is racing to counter the threat (apnews.com)

After a student leader of the historic Tiananmen Square protests entered a 2022 congressional race in New York, a Chinese intelligence operative wasted little time enlisting a private investigator to hunt for any mistresses or tax problems that could upend the candidate’s bid, prosecutors say....

I’m glad Canada called them out on that. Insane that they ordered a hit like that from within Canada.

This is absolutely bizarre. At least in NA, there’s a decent number of family/unspecified restrooms, which are also gender neutral and usually have a changing station. Some have gendered bathrooms as well. But for stuff like apartments, usually they just do a few unspecified bathrooms as it is easier to do.

This seems awfully unnecessary and expensive just to spite, what, 1% of the UK population?

Wahots,

The only unsafe bathroom I’ve ever been in is one where the stalls had not been properly secured to the floor, and the whole thing looked like it was on the verge of collapse.

…All the unisex bathrooms either are physically walled off, or have floor to ceiling stalls with the privacy covers on all cracks. (US)

Thank god, that was one of the more idiotic decisions in modern gaming history. Like the time the flappy bird dev took the game down right when it reached it’s peak. I dunno if HD2 will really recover from this blow, that might have been the high water mark for the game. I will probably give it a whirl again sometime, though.

EA did that with Origin. Sucked absolute dick and they eventually gave up on most of it except for some backend stuff. Technically, you can still buy games through New Origin, but they cross publish it all on Steam now.

What was the BF4 fiasco? Bad launch?

Wahots,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

This is why I skip so many threads. Mostly, I just wanna talk about aquariums, gardening and bikes/ebikes.

As soon as people bring up ________ and __________, I’m out.

Hmm, can’t even see the comments. I get you though, I remember hurtful comments from way back. They do kinda stick with ya. People are a lot more confrontational on the internet than they are irl.

Not to mention google and apple deliberately C&Ding stuff like the awesome first party youtube apps and stuff like project islandwood. They deliberately tried to stop their apps from working because they knew what would happen if WP succeeded.

They already have third-party batteries for ebikes as well as battery repacking services for proprietary batteries.

Hopefully, such services come for cars, assuming we get comprehensive R2R for cars and bikes.

Some ebikes have proprietary stuff like proprietary motors, spokes, and batteries.

Honestly, stuff like underwater welding should be done by robots. Stuff like that is so unbelievably dangerous. I could see a lot of dangerous jobs getting swapped over to robots (bomb defusal, hotwork, chemical processing or oil rig repairs when the plant is shut down, etc).

Hell yeah, this was (and is) a bummer for queer couples that want to have kids. We want to start families just like heterosexual couples, but stuff like A.I. and surrogacy can be extraordinarily expensive. And these so-called “pro life” politicians aren’t taking steps to make it any more affordable to concieve while they scream about every life being sacred and replacement theory and all that nonsense.

I played for 90 hours, it’s fun. But like many games where the narrative is determined by hundreds of thousands of people, it suffers from the Marvel Studios problem where nothing ever happens. The aliens destroy X planet and it gets rebuilt and everyone moves back. No attacks on super earth, two enemy types, mostly the same set of planets.

The gameplay loops are fun, but I have most stuff unlocked and was hoping the robots would really make an incursion, or the bugs would attack super earth. So far though, no dice.

For $40 and 90 hours of play, I can’t complain. It just doesn’t feel like it has the staying power of a DRG though.

Hopefully, they remain competitive, I wanna try them next time I need a GPU. Would love a Sapphire card.

Even some domestic brands like Juiced go on sale for like, $1,200 for a Juiced Ripracer. Aventon appears to make good stuff too, if you want bike shop support. I’ve had my bike for a month and put 320 miles on it. Fun little bike :)

It’s not like adding more pollution to the air is gonna make things any better. This is an easy w in a world of intractable, difficult problems. We are barely into the bell curve of where the climate could go, and people are already bitching about the tiny hurricanes, tornadoes, winter storms, droughts, insurance increases, food costs, and wildfires. If you think it’s bad now, just wait and see what it’s like in 30-60 years if we don’t change our behavior, haha.

Wahots,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

I didn’t even know it was having a PC release until like…a game award thing of some kind and was floored that I didn’t hear about it. Realized it was on Epic and wasn’t gonna be a wider release and lost interest.
