If you've worked with Godot to make 3D games you probably had trouble getting your characters behave reliably. If you were working on a movement-based game for any amount of time, you've probably felt the pain.

This here shines light on why exactly that is.

There is hope for fixing Godot's character physic! Come over, and get involved!

@unfa The problem is that it's not a suggestion. It's completely unconstructive. A constructive proposal is "there is someone who can take care of the problem" and then discuss the conditions under which he will do it. And "hire someone" โ€” well, it's not serious at all. Who and on what terms? What will be required of him? The developers know the problems with physics, which follows from this post. But the challenge is to find the right specialist.

Woodcat,
@Woodcat@mastodon.social avatar

@unfa

  1. If it's that simple, then give me an example of someone who could take it on.
  2. The requirements you listed are very far from what is really needed.
  3. I can imagine the difficulties and therefore I am staying out of it.
  4. Yep, the "suggestion" is completely unconstructive.

@Woodcat@mastodon.social avatar

1/3 For those who will be reading this discussion. Let me explain why the "suggestion" is unconscionably stupid.

A person who might take physics at Godot must meet the following two mandatory conditions:

  1. he must already know Godot. The engine is quite large and it's very time consuming to understand it from the outside.
  2. He should have not "general ideas" about physics in game engines, but personal practical experience in this field.
Woodcat,
@Woodcat@mastodon.social avatar

2/3 Actually, the presence of these conditions shows that the circle of potential candidates is extremely small. And engine developers know such candidates better than I do. And if no one specially deals with physics, it means that such candidates are not satisfied with something or they just don't exist.

Also, I'm not the first one to get personal, but since I got caught up I have to respond accordingly.

Woodcat,
@Woodcat@mastodon.social avatar

3/3 I promote Godot on various platforms. Which could potentially attract the right people. The links are attached. So this accusation is demagogic from the impotence to object on the merits.

And such "suggestions" are whining and nothing more.

As of late I am deeply conflicted about ๐Ÿ˜ฟ

  • I love the design philosophy; I think it's [one of / the] best libre 3D-capable engine out there. I use it and promote it.
  • I've learned shocking things about reduz (Juan Linietsky) that made me really sad and I don't trust him in regards to money and power within the project.

I don't want to go into specifics, because it won't fit a toot.

Don't downplay "haters" without evaluating their points.

KDE Plasma 6 brought HDR support to Linux!

And this reminded me that my Gigabyte G27Q monitor is broken. I've sent one back before when it started flickering first only in HDR + Freesync, then without HDR, then without Freesync and finally turned into a strobe.

Now this unit has the same problem, just a longer onset.

Can't I actually get working hardware for my money? Please?

Same with Sony Linkbuds S. Three pairs. All of them broken in similar ways. Still can't get my money back for two...

Woodcat,
@Woodcat@mastodon.social avatar

@unfa Well, there's ViewSonic, Philips, Fujitsu. My AOC works fine, but of course it's an expensive model. And to buy a Gigabyte and hope that it will workโ€ฆ perhaps only MSI is just as uselessโ€ฆ

Woodcat,
@Woodcat@mastodon.social avatar

@unfa I don't mess with that company at all. Not just monitors.

I've switched from Chrome to Firefox about a decade ago. It's just as fast and intuitive, and container tabs are a game changer. It always catches me off guard when I see its market share is so low.

@Gargron There's nothing to be surprised about. It's a consequence of their policy when support for old extensions was discontinued. Their attitude towards users is disgusting.

He had no right to shut down a forum he didn't create.

Woodcat,

@vintprox @Ertain

He had the "right" - as in the ability to shut it down - yeah. But since he had nothing to do with the creation of the forum, he had no moral right to destroy what was not created by him. Appointing him as a moderator was a big mistake.
