How do you handle your passwords?

I rely on Bitwarden (slooowly migrating from… a spreadsheet…) and am thinking of keeping a master backup to be SyncThing-synchronized across all my devices, but I’m not sure of how to secure the SyncThing-synchronized files’ local access if any one of my Windows or Android units got stolen and somehow cracked into or...

While you may not agree with the argument, this was certainly a “groundbreaking” argument when it was made.

Using pure logic to make a coherent argument for the existence of God, Avicenna lived between 970 - 1037, it was definitely “new” when he made the argument.

There are so many of colour jokes I can think of… Too soon.

I feel sorry for the families. People in their 80’s Vs a ram … Not much of a competition.

It boggles my mind that they are cutting funding for food in schools, they should be expanding the program.

It could even be used for children’s pocket money in the same way as cash was currently used.

I don’t see that working well at all for younger kids, the physical nature of money has more “weight” to it than a number on a screen.

It could lead to interesting situations where some people just use cash again.

As long a multiple wallets are simple to setup, you have your walking around money that is with you. In a secure location you have another general wallet that holds most of your liquid cash, and keep a third (4th, 5th…) wallet hidden containing some “emergency” money.

We use 1/2 cash, 1/2 a note book for their “savings account”

We do the $/yr of age also.

We go to the op shop quite often, some cool things have turned up. We also donate stuff, especially good for puzzles, keep them for a while then donate them back.

Kids can talk a lot of shit…😄

From my experience, when a young kid is standing there counting out their money, there are a lot of smiles.

It is one of those little things, but it is really nice to see. You miss that with a card.

It is not just the kids, the adults around also smile

I don’t really use cash, I have a card wallet also.

But for pocket money and going to markets and the like, I use cash. Cash is just a tool, and sometimes it is the best tool for the job.

Agreed, at least in the short term. Physical cash will be around for a long time yet.

Action - inspiration - motivation loop

Get on the loop at any point. Often the best thing to do is just start doing it, 5 minutes in and you want to do more.

It is Pacino at his best (arguably at least, he has done some great work)

Listening to The Kaka this morning, Bernard Hickey has a nice take, one primary reason is that this will save politicians approx 15min between the airport and parliament…the cynicism made me LOL

So isn’t this similar to the US Chips act… Funnel billions into an industry that the country sees as nationally important.

Doesn’t the EU do this with its farm subsidies? Ensuring Europe can feed itself if it needs to…

A crime, no, concerning sure.

What is causing the drop?

As the Internet Gets Scarier, More Parents Keep Their Kids’ Photos Offline (getpocket.com)

Here's a non-paywalled link to an article published in the Washington Post a few days ago. It's great to see this kind of thing getting some mainstream attention. Young children have not made an informed decision about whether they want their photos posted online.

Syncthing!

Android Phone/Linux/Windows/Mac/iOS clients. Simply sync your photos to all of your devices, if you only have the one device, use a trusted friend and cross sync…

Don’t bother with cloud.

Also Signal groups for sharing with those that matter.

Looking at community law, it looks like they only have the right to ask you to leave AFTER they have trespassed you, before that you have the legal right to be in the store.

Since this lady in fact had not been trespassed previously and they (probably) didn’t serve her a notice during the incident, she would seem to be well within her rights to say prove that it is me, and not leave/call the police to sort it out.

Whilst supermarkets are private property, they are not the same type of private property as your house. They need grounds to refuse entry/ask you too leave, there are all kinds of discrimination implications if you remove the need to have grounds to refuse service.

I use SSHFS when I want to quickly grab a file off my server at home.

It is not a permanent solution, but it is fast and SSH is almost never blocked so the network I’m coming from doesn’t matter.

Also SSH is great, if I don’t trust the network I’m on, I tunnel all of my traffic through my home server over a SSH connection (this worked whilst I was in China a few years ago, waiting for my connecting flight).
