@athena_rose922 ehh even if you don't land it perfectly they'll never know. I once had to shove a whole chapter of our homebrew campaign into a 'what if' framing device cause I couldn't make the plot fit otherwise

Looking up previous editions of Ravenloft I found interesting characters I wanna bring into my game but I also found a fairly major one I'm going to revise. There's a wealthy rug merchant named Stefan Dyreth who has made a shit ton of money because he has employed reanimated people to work in his mills so he doesn't have to feed or pay them.

Now in the original it's undead children but I read that and said "Nope" because I am not comfortable with that. It's still horrible but they're adults.

So I saw this map and just knew I had to use it in a game.

I decided it's the "headquarters" for the local branch of the Kargatane in Martira Bay in the sense that they hang out there, but it's the equivalent of a cheesy tourist trap that they only go to because one of the agents has fond memories of going there as a kid.

My 2 year home brew had a similar restaurant chain called "Clackers" complete with waitstaff in unwieldy inflatable crab mascot costumes.

It was owned by a seagull aarakokra who was fashioned after Colonel Sanders x John Hammond, and was raising genetically modified giant crabs on a remote island.

Crabs, I tell ya. Everyone loves crabs.

Ooh I just had a wicked idea. So the players are gonna meet a character who is working for the Kargatane and under Alcio, so what if she convinces them they have to hunt down a "dangerous criminal" who murdered her mentor's family member and killed an entire tribe of Vistani via an undead horde.

Aka Rudolph Van Richten, via a very biased version of the story that leaves out how said Vistani kidnapped his son and sold him to a vampire to be a slave and also killed his wife.

Ridiculous thing about big tech migration is how you can have camps of people with completely polar opposite approaches coming to it.

For example, there was a contingent of far right conspiracy weirdoes who flocked to DuckDuckGo because they thought Google was suppressing their free speech.

Same people however cheer for entire platforms being owned and ruined by billionaires sooo ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

For them it's not about owning their data, privacy at any level or being weirded out about any of the news regarding monopolies, breaches or shady dealings. It's just that their favourite influencers are kneecapped by pesky content moderation policies and so it has to be evil.
