As I was flying back from London, I got some iMessages from my wife with pics that didn’t download because w on plane WiFi, and then a message that says “Call me as soon as you can.”

I turned my cell service back on at ORD with trepidation, but apparently we just used all the good karma we’ve accumulated for about the last decade.

Somehow, our house is in one piece and nobody got hurt.

The other side of our house, with the boom resting on our fence and cars in a neighboring parking lot, again probably a foot over our roof.
A view from inside our house of the tipped over orange truck, which high also had a bunch of boards fall off it that somehow did not hit our house.

Which is my favorite song.

If you ever get the chance to have your Mac run out of disk space and RAM, but say it didn't run out of disk space and RAM, I highly recommend it. You see, the files are managed for you, so you don't have to worry, except when your desktop wallpaper breaks, and you can't quit or launch apps, but under the hood it definitely is taking care of things.

@joesteel @dan Did you try turning off and not back on again?

My Apple Card is expiring this summer, and the replacement physical card arrived in the mail today. Activating was super-duper easy—just bring it in close proximity to your iPhone and tap a button or two on screen. Done.

But what do I do with the old card? It's titanium so it's not easily destroyed.

I've had metal Amex cards since 2010 or so. When Amex sends a replacement card, they include a return envelope custom made for mailing them your expired card for recycling.

agiletortoise,

@gruber If it doesn’t, the fire is just not hot enough (and all the identifying information is not titanium)

What are folks' strategies with using the StoreKit 'requestReview' call? Given that Apple controls when the user sees this, I often see advice that you should be pretty aggressive with calling this - is this how you call it?

Have you seen any evidence that you're penalized with this strategy? I have an app that gets pretty decent volume, and is calling this aggressively, but is getting very few ratings 🤔

agiletortoise,
@agiletortoise@mastodon.social avatar

@stroughtonsmith @matt1corey Variation on Steve's approach. I currently have it setup in most of my apps to request a prompt monthly, and the user has to have launched the app at least 15 times. I also usually tie the request trigger to the completion of action or process in the app successfully.

I looked at a list of movies coming out this Summer to figure out what was going to get me to the theater, and as far as I could tell it was all sequels. I’m sure some of them will be good, but where’s the new stuff?

agiletortoise,
@agiletortoise@mastodon.social avatar

@joesteel I’m sure Kevin Costner’s ego project will turn Hollywood around.

agiletortoise,
@agiletortoise@mastodon.social avatar

@matt Maybe next year the Barbenheimer effect will have had time to affect the production cycle and we’ll see some new-ish big projects? I'm not optimistic in the current market.

@agiletortoise Are there any special toggles needed to enable an iOS app to be installable via TestFlight on visionOS? Have a few apps that are enabled for visionOS, but only in the App Store version and not allowed to install via TestFlight.

agiletortoise,

@tchaten Yes. There are toggles in TestFlight group configuration for whether you want to allow install on Vision Pro (and also Apple Silicon Macs).
