Personal note: I broke my leg last week. A spiral fracture of the tibia (shinbone) and fibula (calfbone) and a broken ankle too. An orthopedic surgeon put the leg back together and I've been resting at home since Friday.

This is the first time in my life I've broken a long bone (fractured a toe or two along the way, but that's been about it). Not an experience I care to repeat, ever.

There’s a lot of noise in the halls of government about online privacy concerns, GDPR, and banning TikTok, but I think legislators really need to focus on limiting the length of a “farewell tour.”

Hilton has this check-in system now where you don't have to interact with people. While it's more efficient, it's a weird thing to make part of your brand.

@glennf I was in a convenience store yesterday that had a new self check that had a big tray abd you were just supposed to put all your items on it and it’s camera array would scan it all and ring it up.

People waited in a line of 10+ people rather than use it.

Is there a way to use Siri to put Apple notes on the iPhone into dictate mode? If you say, “Create a note”, it only listens until you pause for a second. While driving yesterday, I had something I wanted to dictate and couldn't find the right incantation.

I’d love for it to start a note and switch it into the dictation mode, where it just keeps listening and transcribing for as long as you need.

Oh, and “Create a long note” does this... 😂

@daveverwer Drafts has a custom interface to manage extended dictation, and registers a “Dictate new draft” App Shortcut to open it. https://docs.getdrafts.com/docs/editor/dictation

That doesn’t get you straight into Notes, you’d have to act on the draft after to move it to notes after.

On iOS 17, I’m going to support intent continuation that would allow making a shortcut that would go straight into Notes.

@gedeonm Not sure they are interested in tying their cash cow to a new host almost as old as the current one. Likely a move to reboot for a younger audience. I’d be surprised if Vanna stays around.

Took a stab at CKSyncEngine.

Definitely start with the sample code (https://github.com/apple/sample-cloudkit-sync-engine https://github.com/apple/sample-cloudkit-sync-engine). The WWDC session itself glosses over some of the interesting details - like you having to keep up with last known server record to manage merge conflicts.

Sample code also misses a lot of details that will be needed for production, but I was able to get it mostly up and running in a few hours with an existing code base.

I was just sort of a dick to somebody who had their dog off leash at the park. I picked up one of the no off leash dog signs and just kind of stuck at next to them and walked away.

I feel pretty bad about it. There was no reason for me to be that passive aggressive.

The thing is I’ve had two little dogs who got jumped by somebody’s big dog who was off leash, one who almost died, and it just kind of set me off this time. I hope I see the guy again somewhere else so I can apologize.
