Zelensky: 'Our partners fear that Russia will lose this war' (kyivindependent.com)

President Volodymyr Zelensky believes that Ukraine’s partners “are afraid of Russia losing the war” and would like Kyiv “to win in such a way that Russia does not lose,” Zelensky said in a meeting with journalists attended by the Kyiv Independent....

alcoholicorn,

While we really don’t want a state with thousands of nukes to splinter, I doubt that any policy writers in DC feel that way, given the eulogies they gave to Navalny, a guy who had politics somewhere around Mussolini’s and made Putin look like a dove.

But also the fact that we have like 8000 tanks in the desert that we’re not sending tells me that they’d rather fight Russia to the last drop of Ukrainian blood than actually break Russia so who knows.

alcoholicorn,

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexei_Navalny#Political_po…

Navalny co-founded the National Russian Liberation Movement, known as NAROD (The People), which sets immigration policy as a priority.[437] The movement allied itself with two nationalist groups, the Movement Against Illegal Immigration and Great Russia

Those groups are both pretty big on fashy iconography

In the same year, he released several anti-immigration videos,[439][440][441][442] including one where he advocated the deportation of migrants.[443] In one of the videos, in which he advocates for gun rights, he compares Muslims from the Caucasus to cockroaches and mimics shooting one who attempts to “attack” him.

His views on foreign policy evolved over time.[448] He had initially supported the Russo-Georgian War in 2008,[456] having asked the Russian army to strike the Georgian General Staff, calling Georgians “rodents”[457] and requesting that all Georgian citizens be expelled from the Russian Federation.[458] He later apologized for insulting the Georgians, while stating that his principled position remained unchanged.

alcoholicorn,

IKR. The way such easily accessible information was entirely ignored in western media insane.

People look at me like I’m crazy when I say portraying the guy as Putin’s biggest rival is sillier than if Russian papers started claiming Pete Buttigeig was Trump’s biggest rival, since at least Mayo Pete didn’t come in 4th in a mayoral race.

alcoholicorn,

Yeah, circumstances are very different now. Back then the Russian bourgeoisie thought they’d get to join the club. Now they have very little incentive to abide such deals.

Also there’s way more right-wing psychos.

alcoholicorn,

Until like 2022, Tesla door handles cost 600 dollars and had 9 contact sensors, 4 motors, and a controller board, all exposed to moisture. They had a very high failure rate.

Today, they have 2 magnetic sensors, 2 motors, and a control board, with less exposure to moisture. They still have a high failure rate, they still cost 600 dollars.

alcoholicorn,

Yeah no they didn’t need to go to the hospital, as a kid I titrated up to 8 pills at once before I decided it didn’t work.

So you only see votes from instances that are federated with that instance.

If instance A is not federated with instance B, but they’re both federated with instance C, looking at a post on instance C from instance A will not show votes from instance B. But looking at it on instance C will show both A and B’s votes.

As for complaints, it’s paranoia. I’ve seen people on .world complain about Hexbear downvoting en mass, and HB doesn’t even have downvotes, and even if they did, .world wouldn’t see them since they’re not federated.

alcoholicorn,

You know what everyone knows, but nobody is willing to say? People with even numbered birthdays are responsible for all of society’s ills.

alcoholicorn, (edited )

Post their names. No need to wait a couple months.

I’m sure other hexbears will bully them for being so reddit-brained as to care about downvotes.

alcoholicorn,

we all talk about accidentally streaming porn but it never actually happens.

It happens. But unless it’s someone big, most streamers aren’t being recorded or have haters who want to get them banned and are able to scrub all evidence of it.

alcoholicorn,

Even if it’s not on the menu, it’s not like you can’t get X neat or on the rocks.

But chinese people have protests all the time. Do you think they all get disappeared? Or did the media make that shit up so you don’t feel bad about the US doing the same shit?

Shit, in 2020, we saw the biggest protests since the Iraq War (which the media didn’t cover), and every single city responded by saying “You can’t do that, it’s illegal”, and proceeded to beat the shit out of them and disappear them in significant numbers.

99% of the time, such direct actions are unnecessary as the media is very effective at shutting down criticism of the government. Just look at the coverage of student protests.

alcoholicorn,

OK, so what is anyone in power gonna do about it?

alcoholicorn,

They can stack the court if they get a majority in both (which would increase election chances since you’d be giving people hope they won’t live in a theocracy ruled an unelected supreme council. Fuck we’re even less democratic than Iran on paper.), they can marginalize the court by very publicly refusing to enforce their rulings, they can have them assassinated.

The alternative is expecting to win every single election for the next 40 years or so until they die of natural causes. And then being willing to ban the filibuster to actually get a dem pick in.

alcoholicorn,

A tactic FDR used was threatening to add justices to the court. That’s what’s meant by stacking the court.

The threat was enough to get them to do what he wanted, since they realized they could either go along with him, or go against it and be marginalized since they have no actual power to enforce their rulings.

alcoholicorn,

Nuance isn’t required here. Zionists want a theocratic apartheid state, Palestinians want a multi-ethnic, multi-religious state.

It’s not Hamas bombing churches in Gaza. It wasn’t Hamas who bombed Bethlehem and burned down the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve.

alcoholicorn,

A 2 state solution was never realistic. Throwing out unworkable peace solutions or quibbling over details instead of outright saying they’re not ready for peace so that they can continue violence is a US (and israeli) tactic you’ll see over and over.

The US and Israel both knew Palestine was never gonna give up its best land to hostile invaders, as the borders would make their economy entirely dependent on Israel, and Israel media made it very clear that such a state would only be temporary.

alcoholicorn,

If they integrated Russia into NATO/EU in the 90s instead of stripping it for parts, it would have been the end of history for at least a generation.

alcoholicorn,

Better order Mayorkas dismantle or sell off every ICE camp and piece of equipment and fire every single agent before it’s used to commit further inhumane acts.

alcoholicorn,

It’s also worse because it’s violence of the oppressor vs violence of the oppressed.

alcoholicorn,

ending NATO

But an end to NATO would be an unambiguously good thing. It has literally never fought a defensive war in its history and the places its invaded and bombed are still hurting decades later.

withdrawing from the UN.

A UN where the US couldn’t veto a hundred demands for peace in Palestine, backed by threat of sanctions is also an unambiguously good thing.

If I genuinely believed Trump would bring about a peaceful dismantling of the American Empire, I’d have to campaign for him.

alcoholicorn,

The US would officially no longer embrace human rights

The US only embraces human rights of enemy states. We’ve got more prisoners than any other country and support the worst dictatorships.

alcoholicorn,

Were you not aware the auto and oil lobbies you’re paying to get stuck in traffic for 20 minutes to get to a place a mile away are a huge portion of the capitalists who own our politicians?

alcoholicorn, (edited )

I don’t think the average Chinese person is as rabidly nationalistic as Americans and Russians though.

Give me Tehran and Jacksonville. Miami and Havana. Nashville and Pyongyang.
