in a curious way, reddit's new api charging model has improved reddit. and most curiously, it has sent the improvements into the past.

that is to say: up until a month ago, any mention of reddit on my timeline was about what a dying shithole it still was. but now, apparently, it's an internet treasure suddenly being consumed by a capitalist land grab.

@torb yeah, i guess it's an awareness that this kind of social media has a predisposition to only report the bad things

but it does also give me echoes of the way that newspaper obituaries read. when you know that in life, the journalist would have taken any opportunity to berate or scandalise the person

yesterday morning i was getting excited about making a little compofiller for Nova. yesterday evening i was angry and sulking because i felt so tired. i've had to realise that this is a sign of exhaustion, and i'm dropping all my plans to do prods for a specific deadline. i'm going to find smaller creative things to do to entertain myself.

i feel sad that i'm not going to make anything for the great uk party, but you can't fight exhaustion by getting more exhausted.

@jtruk thank you! yeah, i'm approaching this from the perspective that having expectations is an energy-consuming activity. but if i find out through playing around that i've made something and i can use it next weekend, then that's a happy coincidence

i'm really getting thoughtful about all the great responses to this. how to incorporate these learnings into livecoding communities and make sure that anyone who wants to experience livecoding can do so in an inclusive and welcoming way

@yaxu that's a good point, what you want to do is going to be a component of what your blockers are. i have a vested interest in casual jams, and not creating undue expectations, but even so it can be daunting to a newcomer
