One more tutorial for folks, this time on pip-compile to manage dependencies in Python/Django.

I tried to make this as friendly as I could to people new to the topic since the ordinary course of action is just to share a somewhat lengthy/custom set of preferences.

There is a new Discourse Forum for my 3 books--Django for Beginners/APIs/Professionals-- free tutorials on LearnDjango.com, and the @djangochat podcast.

Please have a look and sign up if you've used any of those resources or want to help others learn them. Teaching is the best way to master something yourself.

Looks like I'm going to be the PEP delegate on a proposal to let people specify dependencies via comments in single-file scripts (i.e., make it so those "Python's better than bash" scripts be able to easily list any packages needed for execution): https://discuss.python.org/t/pep-722-dependency-specification-for-single-file-scripts/29905/185

What's going to be interesting is I'm going to have my teammates at Microsoft help me evaluate the PEP(s), both technically and qualitatively via probably user studies.

Threads is looking better and better. What I wanted from social media was:

  • self-promotion from celebrities and rich people

  • no control over my timeline

  • strict prohibition of any sexual content

  • nothing from europe

  • no alt-text

  • data harvesting to empower genocides
