I really don’t mean to be a snob about indie and self-publishing but professional editing makes an immense difference and I can feel its absence within about three pages. Editors at the big 5 are very good at their jobs. 🫣 @bookstodon

I was completely expecting to not like today’s pick, ’s Songs From A Room, but it’s totally hitting the spot! I think I prejudged because “Hallelujah” is so overdone and has kept me from checking out any Cohen, but that was totally silly. This album has a really great feel, especially when listened to in the dark when everyone else is still sleeping.

Omg, the sun is out!! We got here (my Illinois condo) on the 21st and this is the first day with clear sky and sunshine, 🥹🌞. Finally!!!

I’m VERY solar, so this is a huge deal. Heading back to Phoenix soon, but this is a gift, man. I’m going to sit in a sunbeam for an hour.

Happy Hound lady: Oh it's Benson's birthday!

Me: omg! It's January!

Benson was just bouncing between us wagging his tail. I wanted to hug his thick neck and never let go.

(We don't actually know the exact day but it's somewhere in January. So every day this month is this Schmoopie's birthday.)

A dog's frustration that the blackberry season is over. And the pride of having dug a big hole. Sniffing the tracks of voles, deer and wild boars while the lame Twoleg can only smell the fox.
Tomorrow we celebrate Bilbo's 5 months living with an aggressive cancer. Hiking became shorter but he still has so much joy.🥰 Every day like today is a feast.

Fun fact! Speaking of John Gotti, my mom was one of his teachers in Queens back in the 70s. Imagine seeing John Gotti hunched in one of those crummy, cramped little student desks with the chair attached at back-to-school night?
