It's kind of funny trying to get people who aren't into getting connected with online communities (which is fine) to understand what using social media means to me.

I appreciate everyone who interacts with my posts and everyone who posts the interesting things I interact with. This is, for me, very social and very enjoyable. I'm not exactly close besties with most of my mutuals, but I love the fact that I am getting to know several folks on here.

I want to post more about since I did join because of the gaming angle & I think it's nice when the local feed is full of stuff related to the central "theme" of your instance.

So I dunno, maybe I'll try and actually play some of these games on my shelf so I have something to say.

The problem of course is a) additional players are required for most of them b) a limited # of hours in the day and days in the week, not all of which can be dedicated to games.

Don't mind me, I'm just an American salivating over different electoral systems I wish we could implement.

As far as presidential elections, literally ANYTHING would be better than the electoral college, but in general, if we could just stop using First Past the Post, there are multiple possible variations that would at least be more representative than what we have now.

Biblical literalism and a belief that every word of Scripture was ordained by God himself was THE biggest issue for evangelical theology of the 20th century. In response to "liberal" interpretation of Scripture, they built an elaborate doctrinal framework about the nature of the Bible and its total authority in all areas of life.

So we all laughed at the 2nd Amendment absolutists because it's about a militia, not establishing an individual's rights to have an arsenal of deadly weapons, and the whole militia thing was related to a situation wildly different than today in many key ways, but...

They are definitely planning to go all in on the militia thing now. So that's great. Really great.

Your options when it comes to tipped professions (in countries/situations where workers are not making a living wage) are tip well because workers should be paid for their labor or don't patronize businesses that don't pay their workers properly.

Patronizing the business but not tipping the employee "on principle" because businesses should pay their workers is just taking advantage of an underpaid worker.

Sometimes I forget that not everyone focuses on looking for Narrative Themes™ when watching movies.

Case in point: someone criticizing Nope because they feel the chimp-sitcom-freakout storyline seems unrelated to the UFO plot. To me, the chimp storyline is essential to understanding the movie's themes. I never questioned its purpose. But it does occur to me now how someone who just wants to watch a horror movie about a UFO might not think that adds much.

My (other) boyfriend wants to start up a game of , and is recruiting 🐢 and I.

I've never played it before. folks, what should I know about this game? I'm kinda not crazy about the concept, and 🐢 has had kind of uneven experiences with playing it, but I'm all about trying any games I get the chance to.

So, if you've played it, what elements do y'all like about it? How should I approach it to have the most fun with it?

It looks like this was probably settled out of court, but I just found out that this company whose data privacy and security policies I was questioning was involved in a Class Action lawsuit in 2022 for a data breach.

And yet they STILL don't have data privacy and security policies.

Okay, technically I think neither Biden or Trump should be running for president, but when I've been very vocal about the fact that I think Trump should be in prison, I'll be honest, I don't feel the need to specify that I think he should not run for president.

Something I want to say based on what some people I love have been emotionally struggling with recently.

"Cis-het" is, on its own, just a description of someone's gender identity and sexual orientation.

I have a BIG problem with cisheteronormativity. It's harmful and toxic. And ONE of the groups of people who are harmed on a daily basis are cis-het people, including cis-het MEN.

So the real reason all these shows get canceled after the second or third season is because if the show goes on the crew gets better pay and benefits?

This is why we can't have nice things.

Like, literally the money-people won't let us have nice things because they might have to let someone else get a fraction of the money they think is theirs.

I hate this so much. It's disgusting to me.

If people getting killed in prison is a problem, let's fix (abolish) prisons! Why does Trump deserve to be protected and other people don't? Why is his life any more precious? Other people get killed in prison, but we don't give everyone a Secret Service detail, do we?

If some specific person being sent to prison is "a death sentence", then something is terribly, terribly wrong with prisons (but we all already knew that).

I'm working on some sort of theory about neurodivergent "incels" and "Red Pill" guys and how when you feel dependent on other people to explain "how things work" (because you are told that all your behaviors are constantly judged against an invisible standard) you can be trapped into bigoted and reductionist worldviews that don't reflect the person you want to be. After all, lots of things society tells you are true do not "feel right" to you, but you are forced to accept them anyway.

I still haven't gotten over the fact that Rowling created a wizarding world that was plagued by institutionalized racism (and patriarchy!)—a fact she frequently highlighted—but actually never planned to upend that hierarchy.

Even as a kid when the books were coming out, I truly believed and expected it was going somewhere. It seemed to me that Rowling was laying the groundwork for the Ministry of Magic to become the true villain.

Really disappointing that apparently decided that the Home screen has to be totally cluttered with useless junk.

It makes my experience of using the console significantly worse than if I could pin only the things I want to my home.

The visual clutter is very unpleasant.

Oh dear me. I just visited the Mandela Effect subreddit to read a post and comments about how "the sun used to be yellow, and now it's white," and I think a lot of these folks are not doing well.

If someone describes feeling like everyone, including their family and friends, is avoiding a topic and trying to deceive them, well... "scientists replaced the sun, and it's a conspiracy" is not the most obvious conclusion.

Sometimes I think about all the other highly intelligent species we "share" this planet with: orangutans, orcas, crows, elephants, and more, and I really feel the weight of the damage humans have inflicted.

It's been shown that we have not even gotten close to understanding the complexity of these creatures, what they are capable of, and what they understand, and it's depressing that we don't respect them as conscious beings simply because their consciousness is not like ours.
