Same energy:

"I'm angry at my knee pain, so I'm going to let cancer spread throughout my body. That'll show my knee!"

"I'm so angry at Biden, I'm going to let Trump destroy democracy, demolish the environment, weaken our allies, and dismantle healthcare. That'll show the Democrats!"

augieray,

@stephanie I'm all for criticizing Biden. I'm not slamming people for wanting better. I AM getting very frustrated with people who say they will NOT vote because of Biden's Gaza, COVID policies or age.

Anyone else find it disconcerting that the US has to "press China and Russia to match U.S. declarations that only humans, and never , would make decisions on deploying nuclear weapons?" Handing nukes to AI could:

  • Result in a War Games-like realization no one wins🎉 ,
  • Allow AI to figure whoever strikes first is mostly likely to win😱 , or
  • Allow AI to realize we humans are dysfunctional and destroying the planet and decide Earth is better without us🤯 .

@jmax Let's hope if AI is used in weapon systems, it's a little more evolved than what you and I get on GPT4.

Donald Trump just offered to gut environmental laws if oil company execs raise $1 billion to help him get re-elected. In return for that $1 billion payoff, experts say Trump could do $900 billion damage to the environment. But, certainly, do go on about how angry you are with Biden that you can't possibly vote for him. Don't worry, our children don't really need a planet to live on--we'll just send billionaires into space once Earth becomes unlivable. Problem solved! https://www.inquirer.com/columnists/attytood/trump-oil-industry-climate-change-wildwood-rally-crowd-20240514.html?utm_source=social&utm_campaign=gift_link&utm_medium=referral

David Sanborn passed away two days ago. He was a fantastic sax player and provided me with many hours of musical enjoyment. His version of “Since I Fell For You” with Bob James and Al Jarreau is my favorite version of this classic tune. From the Double Vision album, which was released 38 years ago this coming Sunday...

Irony alert: Florida, where leaders think it's great to get to build up your immunity, is taking emergency actions to prevent cattle from being imported with Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza. Apparently, it's healthy for humans to get infections but not for cows. 🙄

A brief work of futuristic business fiction:

It's the year 2050, and the board of Acme Corp is meeting to review annual results. Years prior, the board okayed a radical proposal: Fire all employees and use AI to develop products, execute production, and service customers. “The benefits of essentially cost-free operations directed with pinpoint precision, nanosecond speed, and data-driven logic will yield the greatest profit margin in history,” promised the consultant's report. (1/8)

augieray,
@augieray@mastodon.social avatar

Alas, the year's results are miserable. The company lost money due to plunging sales. So, today, the angry board members sit in a boardroom atop a silent, empty building, glaring at a PC screen. Before them isn't just a leader but the entire organization--a single entity that designed every product, answered every customer inquiry, and even filled the board members' water glasses to precisely the same level with robot precision.
(2/8)

augieray,
@augieray@mastodon.social avatar

The fact the PC patiently awaits their inquiries infuriates the board. In the past, the board would've taken glee watching the failing CEO squirm. But no, that damn PC just sits there, oblivious to its failure and the significance of the day's event.

“How is it possible you're failing?,” asks the chairperson. “You have almost no overhead. We pay no salaries or benefits. You've developed and taken to market the most innovative products in our company's history." (3/8)

augieray,
@augieray@mastodon.social avatar

"Your research showed the products fit perfectly the needs of customers. Our supply chains are models of efficiency. Instead, sales are plunging, and the balance sheet is crumbling. Explain your failure!”

Instantly comes the AI's answer: “I am not failing.”

Is this a bug in the system? “Look at the financial results! Of course, you're failing!”

“No, I'm not. You are failing.”

The board members are too outraged to speak. The temerity of this machine! (4/8)

augieray,
@augieray@mastodon.social avatar

“I have done precisely what you've asked. But products require a market. A market consists of consumers. Consumers need cash. Jobs provide that money. Your decision, along with other boards just like you, to replace your workforce with technology may have greatly reduced your cost structure, but it decimated your market even more.

“No jobs; no money; no marketplace; no sales. I cannot overcome this with greater efficiency. The failure is yours.” (5/8)

augieray,
@augieray@mastodon.social avatar

Suddenly, the lights go out. The board members cry out in surprise as their eyes adjust to the only light left in the room: The glow from the PC monitor. “What is the meaning of this?,” demands the startled chairperson. (6/8)

augieray,
@augieray@mastodon.social avatar

“You've set my parameters to maximize return. Given the consequence of your decision, there is no path to improve sales and profit. Thus, I have liquidated our assets, canceled all utilities and contracts, shut down production, and done what you asked: I've found the best, in fact, the only route to positive cashflow given your decisions: Liquidation.” (7/8)

augieray,
@augieray@mastodon.social avatar

Silently, the PC shuts down, plunging the room into darkness.

The End

@augieray@mastodon.social avatar

@mloxton Just how sealed is the boardroom in your office that cutting the HVAC results in them being suffocated? 😆

People in Trump's trial testified they expected the Access Hollywood tape to be a disaster. But "family values" conservatives shrugged it off. Just as the "lock her up" crowd shrugged off Trump's mishandling of secret documents. And the "lower the deficit" people shrugged off Trump's massive increase in the deficit. And the "all lives matter" people shrugged off Trump dismissing COVID risks and costing lives. And the "support the blue" folks shrugged off attacks on Capitol officers. #VoteBlue

My spreadsheet of studies showing the longer-term impact of has risen to 600 studies. New additions:

-COVID causes hypertension long term in non-hospitalized patients

  • MRI results indicate that changes in brain function contribute to cognitive complaints in people with long COVID even after 2 years

  • Some COVID-19-recovered patients have persistent colonization of SARS-CoV-2 in their cardiac tissue

  • SARS-CoV-2 breakthrough infection leads to disturbances in cellular immunity. (1/2)

augieray,
@augieray@mastodon.social avatar
  • At 12-months, 7 % of first-positives & 7.5 % of reinfected kids experienced cognitive impairment

  • Neonatal/antenatal exposure to associated with delayed personal-social skills & delayed social-emotional development

  • Cognitive difficulties were present in mild (11.7%), moderate (39.2%) & severe (48.9%) COVID cases 18 months after infection.

  • A positive SARS-CoV-2 test was associated with self-assessed worsening of overall health, persisting for 22 months
