augieray, to random

STUDY finds “patients with may have an increased risk of developing respiratory diseases. Even during the 24-month follow-up, the risk of asthma and bronchiectasis continued to increase.” Risks in COVID patients rise:
49% asthma
30% bronchiectasis
59% COPD
81% ILD
59% PVD
39% lung cancer (which may be incidental to the study)

Reinfection much worse! Compared to 1 infection, reinfected patients' risk were 3x+ higher for asthma, COPD, ILD, and lung cancer.

I keep thinking that, as the health of the population worsens in the coming years due to repeated infections, there will be a wave of anger directed toward public health agencies for having abandoned their missions. Then I remind myself we were lied to by cigarette companies, energy producers, and others, and they're still standing.

What do you think will happen in 5 years when the true risks of COVID reinfections becomes known and after most have 4 to 8 infections?

Answer or comment.

It's pathetic the CDC is justifying weakening their guidance because "no one is following them."

How many times have we heard "but the CDC guidance says it's fine" used as an excuse?

Weak guidance doesn't lead to better public health. It endorses anti-public health behavior.

TL;DR:

"tests work just as well … What’s changed is how our bodies respond to , leading many people to test too early.

… now 'educated' immune systems are providing a kind of in-built rapid test. Instead of indicating positivity on a test strip, the signal comes with congestion & fever.

… when you have mild symptoms after a coronavirus exposure & continue to return negative rapid tests over several days, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have escaped infection"

Really tired of electeds still using an outdated script saying their symptoms are minimal a couple of days after getting COVID.

This ignores the risks of long-term health effects from COVID reinfections, and downplays the importance of taking steps to prevent infections in the first place, like wearing a high quality mask.

It's really sad seeing a progressive politician setting a bad example by encouraging working when sick. Firstly, you need to rest to reduce your risk of Long COVID. Second, this goes against progressive goals of better working conditions, more time off, and sick pay.

An estimated 4.3% of people infected in England as of last week (6% in London!)

Every election means every election at every level! Every matters! In the past few weeks:

The GOP proposed a bill to allow schools to deny students free lunches based on their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Our military has been weakened by a Republican blocking military promotions because he opposes Pentagon abortion policy.

North Carolina is a 50/50 state, but the GOP just passed a gerrymandered electoral map that flips 4 of the state's 14 seats into Republican control. (1/3)

@augieray Look at Virginia: As soon as the MAGA get in power, they start clearing dems from the voting rolls. The MAGA method of discouraging dem votes is 1) to block liberal policies & then have their shills in media nick-pick dems on not doing anything about those issues & 2) blame Biden for regulations/events he has no control over. Those sneak attacks need to be called out. Vote Dem like your life depended upon it, because it may.

Remember: the higher the percentage of vaccinated and boosted people, the lower risk for vulnerable people.

Go forth and give the CDC hell! demand protection for everyone.
