💮 The grant from NLnet has been extended! And @andre 's frontend work is now funded
💮 We're in 2nd review for a new grant, to allow more work thru 2024 & 2025
💮 I'm working on the final piece of the OCAP system vision! Finally!
💮 2 new blog posts! Including a demo!
@yogthos ...because LLMs are essentially a regurgitation of the media they're trained on 🤖
What I meant, though, was that all the AI I've seen seem to have this specific bias of being very vague and "it's complicated" when asked about anything relating to Palestine. Which perhaps tells us where the biases of the majority of media lie (or at least lay)? 🇵🇸
Guys, some hardware #HelpWanted (or rather, advice). My #motherboard burst into smoke 🔥 and now it's okay 😮
🧱 So, I had this problem where my laptop went completely unresponsive: no charging, no powering on, no indicator lights, nothing
🔌 Tried a new power adapter + opened up and line-tested the power socket but no response
🔥 Decided to connect up and try once more. Battery + other indicators finally came on...and also a mini explosion with smoke! So I quickly disconnected
How do #NFC enabled devices like the newer #Yubikey devices work? ⚡
Do they have some kind of magic chip that gets powered over NFC and performs #encryption stuff, or is it more of a standard read/write tag with the computer/phone/reader device doing most of the work? 💳
(If the latter then is there a danger of other people bringing a scanner nearby and swiping your key?) 🔑
I have a huge amount of appreciation for the fact that Nautilus / #GNOMEFiles can seamlessly pattern-select, batch-rename and move files both from its treeview and from search results… all with keyboard shortcuts! Extremely useful to clean up filenames.
Today, in someone else's messy folders, I was able to cleanly rename everything and eliminate at least 40 duplicates in a directory that contained over 180 files, most of which were in the wrong locations.
#OCaml peeps, how would #Irmin work as the backend for an #ActivityPub powered social network? :fedi: 🐫
Looking at the descriptions, it seems it'd be either the worst or the perfect fit, but I can't figure out which 😅
The plus point is ActivityPub is all about distributed databases and edit history and posts that shouldn't be duplicated. But social media is also about privacy rights, including the right to be forgotten—so is that something the history-preserving Irmin can easily handle? 📜
Sigh, website for one of the local indie radio stations is now behind "Deflect," a Cloudflare-like DDoS protection thing. Which means their show podcast feeds now serve HTML "Verifying if your connection is secure" pages (which require a cookie store and JavaScript to pass) instead of RSS.
Right now my "default" is to go to GitHub, and then maybe GitLab and Codeberg...but that leaves out all the other hosts out there. Once #ForgeFed happens we'll need it even more :fedi:
(By the way, I say "git" because that's where most code is, but if other kinds of repos are supported, even better! 🔍 )
@farooqkz my projects are always "is it even going to happen" so I haven't got to the stage of thinking which ones are better 😅 what you say makes sense though! And now that you mention it, the things I've worked with over a period of time (software or otherwise) have usually ended up being very satisfying 😇
And it leaves the cursor wherever it ended up. So one gotcha to watch out for is, if your key combination needs to start (for example) at the beginning of a line, then make sure to put it back at the beginning of a line when you end it (ready for the next round of replay) ➰
There are also ways to name the macro and save it, etc., but I'm yet to get to that stage...
The twitter block issue is caused by Firfox filters. Firefox is working on a fix. The announcement reads as: Hey folks, we are aware of the Twitter issue and our team is working on a fix at the moment.
@janvhs no idea if my project is a good fit, but it's a frontend-only program (a game inspired by "find the invisible cow") so I was like why not ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I'm not used to thinking in this way when designing interfaces but Elm keeps nudging me back when I go off so it's a fun struggle 🧗
