David Oistrakh and Lev Oborine - Beethoven Piano-Violin Sonatas (1962)

Lucked out at the thrift store today and found this complete set of Le Chant du Monde recordings of Beethoven piano & violin concertos in pristine shape.

ECM is reissuing some very good recordings on vinyl - see https://ecmrecords.com/luminessence-audiophile-vinyl-reissue-series-in-2024/

Afric Peperbird, Jewel in the Lotus, Azimuth, Freigeweht.. all classics.

Azimuth is great, that may be the only one I've got an original pressing of. Some of these sell for silly money on Discogs so it's nice to see reissues coming.

Sometimes repressings sound better than the original. I haven't heard any of the ECM reissues so I can't speak to their quality, but it's . I can't imagine ECM not making a great sounding lp; Manfred Eicher would never allow it.

I found an old Nakamichi BX-2 cassette deck at the thrift store today. It wasn't cheap, but I went ahead and got it. I've always wanted a Nakamichi, and this one is in excellent shape. I believe the BX-2 was a sort of budget model of theirs. Sounds great!

Scott Walker - "Scott 3" (1969)

I confess: I don't know that I like Scott Walker's music. I'm new to it, but I haven't taken to the arrangements, or the vocals. It's interesting, yet very schmaltzy.

A clean record is a happy record. 🤓

What’s your method? Mine is distilled water, vacuum, then cleaner, vacuum, then distilled water with a different brush, vacuum.

@andrew @vinylrecords

I use what I inartfully describe as the "blow-suck-blow" method..

  1. dust off the record with a powerful electric air duster;
  2. wet vacuum the record using distilled water (and a tiny bit of Tergikleen); and
  3. use the air duster to blow out any residual fluid in the grooves.

Its the best cleaning method I've used. That last step also helps to prevent any fluid marks on the surface. I never use dry brushes, as I find they just spread dust around and create static.

@andrew @vinylrecords

A powerful electric air duster will blow most any dust off, other than the super fine particles that adhere via static. But the wet vac will take care of those.

Whereas Sphere had more of a Miles fusion vibe, this one has a lot of Stan Getz to it. Soul jazz Stan Getz?

I'm happy to hear it! I've been wondering whether anyone listens to the links in these posts. If folks find them useful, I think I'll keep including them.
