Achievement unlocked: when prompted to sketch a design for a file distribution system that would combine the good parts of old school HTTP mirrors and bittorrent, I accidentally freestyled a high-level design that exactly matches what a current hyperscaler does, with the exact same justifications.

Still got it!

Also a nice birdwatching & trainspotting (no, not that kind) session from the CC's third floor balcony.

@cks @basepi so far it’s def been an improvement over the Wellbefore ones I normally wear. Slightly more finicky to get on/off & not quite as easy to shove in a pocket, but a fair trade.

Hotels which only have one size/style pillow and only one thickness of comforter: are they even /in/ the hospitality industry?

Don't get me wrong, I'm equally confused by places with a literal /pillow menu/, but like. no middle ground? really?

If I seem grouchy the next 4 days, it may be due to lack of sleep 🫠

(attached photos are, idk. maybe 1/2-2/3 of the bridges immediately near downtown? There's at least another 5 or 6 not visible crossing the Allegheny on the other side of the skyline, and another just down the Ohio to the left.)

(Other attendees: the jaunt across the river to the inclines is SUPER WORTH IT. Grab nearly any bus or hop over to the old train station near the Westin to catch the light rail.)

food trip report:

  • Westin hotel room service surprisingly tasty. You can also save $5/pop by requesting pickup in the lobby. They may end up delivering to your room anyways, but…
  • BaeBae's Kitchen a half block down Liberty from the conf area: very tasty hipster Korean-inspired food. Will have to try their "tofu steaks” sometime (got chicken this time because Fuckit, It's Travel™).
  • BaeBae’s seaweed salad is of the leafy variety, uncommon to see! 😋

Next day food trip report:

  • Nicky’s Thai Kitchen, at Penn and 9th: delicious, decently large portion sizes, has outdoor seating but perhaps only when it’s nice out.
  • Condado Tacos across 10th from the Westin: serviceable if unexciting Mexican, with a generous “make your own (tacos/bowls/etc)” menu available.
  • Bridges & Bourbon on Penn a half block from the CC: excellent spirits selection, good service, outdoor seating (covered and non). Am told the food and cocktails are good too.

Batman (1989)

Been a while since I saw this one.
There are a lot of beautiful sets and light rigs in this one.

I still think it's funny, and a bit of a shame, that the Batman costume dictated much of Keaton's performance. Why'd it have to be so hard to move around in??
