Hah! Just when I was complaining yesterday about the lack of regional solar to absorb some of that hot day electricity demand peak, along comes Summer Lee digging up $2m to put a solar farm on the nine mile run slag heap area.
Well, another #PyConUS is done (for me - #Sprints continue for another couple of days!)
It was excellent catching up with old friends and meeting tons of new ones. Pittsburgh was definitely a super cool vibe, 2025 should be fun too.
I'm looking forward to recharging my depleted physical batteries, so I can jump into all the important work we have ahead of us to continue to support this amazing community.
Hey folks, one last entreaty before the #PyConUS hashtag trails off.
We could really use your financial support. Our non-profit #ScholarshipFund is the travel sponsor for #PyCon US 2024.
We've recouped only 4% of what we gave. We're here to serve & happy to do it but could really use some boosts across the fediverse to drive donors so we can do it again.
Pls donate to help more people experience #Pittsburgh through tech conference travel:
Many thanks to @mariatta, @lorenipsum, the rest of the @pycon organizing team and @ThePSF staff, and everyone else who made PyCon US in Pittsburgh possible and awesome. See you again in 2025!
So far, #PyConUS 2024 in #Pittsburgh has hands down been the best ever PyCon for railfans. Got conf lunch on the third floor balcony just in time for a Norfolk Southern consist to roll by.
Decided to give the kids a bit of a treat and perhaps support the not kids anymore but young band nevertheless - #GretaVanFleet playing at PPG Arena in #Pittsburgh
Up in the nosebleed with kids (partners enjoying quiet time at home). Opening act Mirador is pretty good.
(attached photos are, idk. maybe 1/2-2/3 of the bridges immediately near downtown? There's at least another 5 or 6 not visible crossing the Allegheny on the other side of the skyline, and another just down the Ohio to the left.)
(Other #PyConUS attendees: the jaunt across the river to the inclines is SUPER WORTH IT. Grab nearly any bus or hop over to the old train station near the Westin to catch the light rail.)
Anyway, that's today's exercise sorted, and then some. I think XZibit would like #Pittsburgh; it heard u like hills, so it put hills on its hills, so you can hike while you hike^W ride the funiculars.
🚈 Light rail (ended up just taking it a few stops & across river, not all around)
⛰️🚂 Incline 🆙
🚶🏻♂️📸 Mile or so walk + overlook photos
🚂⛰️ Incline ⏬
🚍 Bus back across river to downtown
🚶🏻♂️Ramble around downtown back to hotel
#PyCon attendees who are flying into #Pittsburgh have a $2.75 option for getting from the #PIT airport to the convention center: the #28X#bus.
The ticket machine and door to the 28X are just past baggage claim L, on the left side. You can pay cash, buy a reloadable card, or buy a daily/weekly bus pass.
They've changed some of the routes, so I ended up on the wrong bus and got off downtown at not my usual spot and had to walk a bit to get to the train station. So here you too can enjoy some nice downtown (or dahntahn as they say in) #Pittsburgh buildings in this lovely blue sky weather
