This package https://github.com/positron-solutions/dslide for making presentations with an document. You can also check the video demon https://yt.artemislena.eu/watch?v=AE82bIKNVjk (don't worry this is just Invidious front-end for Youtube and not a nefarious link).

Do head over and read ‘The Reinhardt Style Guide, or Why You’re Wrong About Everything’ and the little rant about the loss of ‘whom’ at https://www.thepublicprofessor.com/the-reinhardt-style-guide-or-why-youre-wrong-about-everything/ for a bit of a laugh.

Hey people. I’ve heard that some people use just one orgmode file for all their writing. Can someone point me to a resource on doing this and maybe weigh in on advisability?

A couple of appearances in New Scientist recently! Yesterday about Trekkie AI: https://www.newscientist.com/article/2419531-ais-get-better-at-maths-if-you-tell-them-to-pretend-to-be-in-star-trek/

And today about Musk trying to get a court to decide whether GPT-4 is AGI: https://www.newscientist.com/article/2420111-elon-musk-asks-court-to-decide-if-gpt-4-has-human-level-intelligence/

Completely forgot I had made this database a while ago when I was bored: https://codeberg.org/bmp/flock, it is written in Go, and was generated with if I remember correctly. Maybe I'll pick it up again, given that newer models seem to be better.

ChatGPT’s gibberish — when it went off the rails the other day — was so hilariously poetic I prefer it to its usual confident bloviations …

… where the answers are often dull, and/or pimento-studded with howlers and bullshit

Maybe OpenAI should just leave the model in full Finnegan’s-Wake mode

temperature cranked to 3,000 degrees

stop pretending this is gonna be useful or AGI

lean into the surrealist poetry

I have a paper on crow behaviour under review that uses agent-based modelling in R to predict survival outcomes. One review is complete, but the editor emailed to ask for more reviewer recommendations because she is struggling to find willing reviewers.

Anyone fancing reviewing a lovely modelling paper about crows?

@academicchatter

bmp,
@bmp@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@sabrinaschalz @academicchatter That sounds very interesting, I’ve done agent-based modelling in a wide variety of areas and would love to read the paper (not review), please do let me know if I can read a pre-print version.

Wondering if there is a (possibly automagic) way in to export/publish links in different colours (or have them with a different CSS class) distinguishing between site-external (https-somewhere) and internal (other org files, images and everything belonging to local files)

I'm reading this right now, but I'm a super Emacs/OrgMofe newbie and I'm not even sure I'm understanding it, but I could try it as soon I properly understand.

bmp,
@bmp@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@AAMfP Have you tried defining a face using defface and then using org-link-set-parameters? This has much more sophisticated examples: https://kitchingroup.cheme.cmu.edu/blog/2016/11/04/New-link-features-in-org-9/#orgc074278. I've just done some replacement for plaintext (org, markdown, etc.), images (some regular formats I use), and PDFs, and protocol links (http, mailto, etc.).

bmp,
@bmp@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@AAMfP Please do share when you have your code snippet ready! Would love to learn more.

Controversial opinion of the day: Young games researchers should not (have to) make games as part of their postgraduate training or research — unless they aim to teach game-making in the future, or fit the super-rare exception of already-skilled practitioners who can genuinely do research through design with benefit.

bmp,
@bmp@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@codingconduct @ludopolitics @jazz interesting thread! As someone who has been making games as research tools for a while now, I’ve been advocating that game makers will benefit from knowing/learning from game studies :-). I don’t mean purely from the perspective of “playability”, but more so because as research tools they need to meet the research objectives.

@arunmani @mastodonindians Congratulations on the book :-)! Collaborating with people who don't necessarily use open-source toolchains is hard and has always been the bane of such tools. I've heard good things about using https://logseq.com as collaborators unfamiliar with Emacs & org-mode can easily use Logseq as a text editor/WYSIWIG tool. Loqseq can save natively in org, so reduces overhead and prevents issues such as adding extra metadata like other WYSIWIGs do.

Hey gang, what do you do with your empty ink bottles? Do you just recycle them or do you find fun reuses for them?

bmp,
@bmp@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@timelordiroh Depends on if I can ever finish a bottle, if the bottle is unique, I re-use it for homebrewn inks/pigments and storing nibs and other small parapharnelia. As they are mostly glass bottles, in case I don't use them, I sell them to a local recycler.
