I made a bad decision: I took apart my Nook Simple Touch so I can measure, model, and print a new plastic case.

This might be my most challenging 3D printing project yet. :blobfoxdealwithitfingerguns:

I went looking for different ways to use AllStar repeaters from the comfort of my home, and it seems to be lacking any kind of dedicated client for Linux, let alone something for iPhone or the web.

Does everyone just set up a hotspot/node and operate that way? I’m thrilled about a diy project, but I was surprised there wasn’t a straight forward way to just connect via software like EchoLink.

Got some clips designed and printed to mount my radio in the Honda Odyssey. It’s a good fit! Now I just need to figure out a solution for the mic.

I played in a local "mini" disc golf tournament yesterday. I had gone to the course to play a few holes with my family, but ended up making a last-minute decision to join.

I'm super glad I did, but playing all of the holes in the heat and humidity wore me out! I'm still feeling it today.

Thinking about picking up a used PS3 somewhere for cheap. I’ve been getting the itch to play games I never got to play because I didn’t own one.

Some of the best games I played were the Uncharted series when I borrowed a PS3 from my friend.

From the perspective of a person who likes narrative games, enjoys a challenge, but doesn't want gameplay to be a chore, would be a good purchase?

Some of the descriptions say that it's filled with "hardcore" platforming. I like the look of it, and I love a good story, but the "hardcore" aspect gives me pause.

This will be the assumption our grandchildren will make when trying to explain the etymology of the phrase. 🙃

I'm currently exploring the possibility of using AnyType as my personal organization system, and I like the idea so far.

I especially like the fact that it's E2E encrypted and works on Linux. Very cool.

My wife and I are considering a trip this year to Barcelona with our two kids (11 and 14 at the time of the trip). First time for 3 of us to travel to Europe.

Does anyone have recommendations or thoughts? Assume we've researched most of the major tourist attractions. I'd love some local insight.

Also considering a train trip from Barcelona to Paris, and then flying back to US from Paris.

Wishing I had the skills and knowledge to port to my Lenovo IdeaCenter 300 stick.

This thing makes a great little xubuntu computer.

My neighbor gave me these two derelict machines. They’ve been sleeping with the critters in the shed for the past few years with no climate control. I’m going to try to clean them up and check for leaky capacitors before attempting to revive them.

Any bets on them coming back to life? 🤠

I'm trying to envision a OS designed for users who are visually impaired.

What if there was a super simple OS designed with strict resource limitations that optimized feedback through an audio interface instead of a graphical interface?

My neighbor gave me an old Nook Simple Touch that had barely been used. Unfortunately, the exterior rubber/plastic is super sticky.

Using a few different types of chemicals did not seem work. I've scraped off a lot of the sticky-ness, but the bezel will probably disintegrate if I try.

I'm considering designing and 3d-printing a rudimentary case for the internals and scrapping the original.

Hey and friends: my 2012 MacBook recently started to have major issues with gdm. Any time gdm is supposed to load, it either gets seriously laggy or the login box doesn't appear even though I can move the cursor around without any lag.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Are there any optimizations I can do to change this?

Haiku OS is cute and all, but I'm thinking about converting my Thinkpad back to Debian with a lightweight desktop.

I wanted to try to use Haiku as a daily driver, but it fell over when I tried to set up gmail on the default e-mail app. Everything was configured correctly, but only the folders/tags synced, not the e-mails.

Building a “makerspace” in my home office for me and my family.

Currently, it’s just a workbench and a power strip, but I have plans for a tool wall, sewing station, crafting station, soldering station and much more.

A 10 foot by 2 foot frame mounted to a wall, and spanning the whole back wall of a room at desk height.
A 10 foot by 2 foot workbench against the wall of a room with a computer and a cutting mat on top of it.

I always find that the thing I love about isn't always actually 3Dprinting. I get a lot of joy out of the puzzles that come with troubleshooting a broken machine, or optimizing a difficult print.

I know I'm not alone in this.

I put a Seiko automatic watch on my wrist today after months of wearing an Apple Watch.

Sometimes glancing at your watch and knowing the approximate time is way better than flicking your wrist slightly wrong and only seeing the blank screen of a tiny computer.

Hey is there a watch that does step tracking without being connected to a phone? I like a Casio, but kind of want to track steps, and I don’t need Bluetooth or anything fancy.

I apologize to anyone who follows me for reasons besides ham radio. I'm gonna ride this hobby wave until I'm tired of it, and there's an awesome ham community on the fediverse. 😆

My mom knows I’m into so she bought a bunch of CB radio boxes for me from a garage sale. Apparently all the ham stuff was already sold, but I did get an antenna amplifier out of it. My son and I will probably tinker, see what might power up, or see what we could tear down.

Anyone have an idea of what they would do with this stuff? I love the look of some of it.

Am I crazy, or did somebody loosely related to elementary OS have a really great website for how to choose a Linux distro based on whether you're beginner, intermediate, or advanced?

I can never remember the URL even though it was easy to remember. I'm also not sure if it's even updated at this point. Maybe cc: @cassidy ?
