cbarrick,

How do the protests and the war in Gaza threaten the wealthy?

cbarrick, (edited )

Obviously. But that’s not an answer.

My question is: what are the concrete desires of the capital class that are being threatened?

Someone else said “oil” which is fair I guess, but very clearly a diminishing return when it’s clear that energy independence is valuable for the capital class if they control the transition, a la Elon.

So again, what do the wealthy have to gain or lose from these protests, specifically?

cbarrick,

That seems to contradict the article:

Special prosecutor Kari T. Morissey argued that “the actor has responsibility for the firearms once it is in their hands.”

The prosecutor is explicitly arguing that he has responsibility because he was holding the gun.

Greater Idaho movement: 13 counties in eastern Oregon have voted to secede and join Idaho (ktvz.com)

On Tuesday, voters in Crook County passed measure 7-86, which asked voters if they support negotiations to move the Oregon/Idaho border to include Crook County in Idaho. The measure is passing with 53% of the vote, and makes Crook County the 13th county in eastern Oregon to pass a Greater Idaho measure.

The number of electoral votes and the number of reps is based on population and is decided by the census.

So if this happens, at the latest, the votes would get fixed in 2031. But I wouldn’t be surprised if this is part of the deal. Obviously those switching to Idaho want to bring their votes with them.

cbarrick,

We are sooo not members of the ICC.

Like, the US has a law on the books allowing the president to unilaterally order an invasion of the Netherlands if the ICC tries to prosecute an American.

cbarrick,

I think my current lowest is 17%

I was about to say “damn that’s high,” but then I realized I didn’t know what my lowest was. Turns out it’s 27%.

So yeah. I’m glad I never leave a balance.

cbarrick,

Lol. I love that Tenacious D is in this.

cbarrick,

Sweatshirts are double-layered pullovers, typically non-woven. Sweaters are single-layer pullovers, typically knit. Jackets have buttons or zippers. Hoodies have hoods and are made of fabric (e.g. raincoats are not hoodies).

You can have hoodies that are also sweatshirts, or hoodies that are also jackets.

This garment pictured in your post is a jacket. It is also a hoodie. It is neither a sweatshirt nor a sweater.

This is just my interpretation of the situation. I don’t know of any formal classification system for outerwear.

cbarrick,

What zombie work, across all mediums, does it best?

Some punctuation and the proper superlative makes OP’s title a bit more readable.

cbarrick,

Is fuel cell tech actually easier, cheaper, or better than batteries in any way?

cbarrick,

I’m confused. Why are we talking about Tesla?

cbarrick,

What are the benefits of fuel cells?

Do they outweigh the benefits of batteries?

cbarrick,

Yeah, I know what a hydrogen fuel cell is.

What I’m saying is that the cost to develop hydrogen infrastructure, the complexity of it’s distribution, the risk due to its high volatility, and the uncertainty of a relatively underdeveloped technology all seem to be losing to batteries, which are very mature tech and are already in the supply chain and for which we already have a well developed electricity distribution grid.

I just don’t see what investing in fuel cells will do other than slow the adoption of zero emission vehicles by another decade.

cbarrick,

In the US, I pay $90/month ($1,080/year) for 1 Gbps internet.

That’s it. No TV. No landline. Just Internet.

cbarrick,

Now I’m curious.

Are you saying that there are more LGBTQ+ people than there are non-white people?

I’m curious because I would have expected the opposite, but I don’t actually have any numbers to back that up. What percent of people identify as LGBTQ+? And is it uniform across races?

cbarrick,

If you restrict it to just Americans, then yeah, I get that. There are a ton of white people in America.

I was thinking worldwide though. You don’t have to be American to be hated.

cbarrick,

I’d go so far as to swap these rules

  • Rule #1 - Awareness
  • Rule #2 - Predictability

Philosophy is just applied existential crisis

@showerthoughts

cbarrick,

I was gonna say this.

Existentialism is kinda boring IMO. But the philosophy of language, knowledge, and ethics are all super interesting.

cbarrick,

In addition to questions of end-of-life, Existentialism also deals with questions of purpose-of-life. Which can be mind racking even if you’re not afraid of death.

Still not super interesting questions to me though.

cbarrick,

Dippy!!!

At the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, on CMU campus in Pittsburgh.

It’s cool, the tail is very long and wraps around the room it is in.

cbarrick,

Queen Latifah (Dana Elaine Owens) got her start as a rapper in the 1980s and began acting in the 1990s.

She is probably most known for her roles in Chicago, Hairspray, Bessie, and the Ice Age series.

These days, she stars on the CBS drama The Equalizer.

cbarrick,

That’s moot. His supporters aren’t going to switch their vote to Biden over this.

What this may do, however, is prevent some moderate Republicans from switching their vote to Biden.

This is a smart move. Smart enough that I doubt the Clown Prince of Diapers came up with it himself.

Outdoor plants are no joke (lemmy.world)

Someone was asking me about pests. These have spider mites, they’re not super bad but I’m going to spray neem oil anyway. It’s not ideal but my ecosystem doesn’t have any spider mites predators right now so it’s really my only current solution. I’m not interested in non-native predators but if anyone has a line on...

cbarrick,

TL;DR

The two most popular insect specialists used to control spider mites are a ladybug named Stethorus punctum and a predatory mite named T. pyri.

And later they say that the ladybug was the go-to. But new EPA regulations prompted some farms to use pesticides that kill the ladybugs. So the predatory mites are better if you are using those kinds of pesticides.

cbarrick,

s/fire/not hire/

The argument is the same.

Edited the comment.
