This week was a wild ride at work. Solved an OOM disaster where 1.8MB of gzip'd json would decompress into over 600MB of JSON, which balloons into more when deserialized. And brought processing time down on some background jobs from 5 minutes to 3 seconds.

Would you believe me if I said linked lists are not sets and n^n algorithms are bad?

Incidents like these remind me why some tech companies interview for algorithm efficiency.

After 1090 days, one of my VMs was restarted to fix a problem

It didn't fix the problem. The disk was full, yet only 7.6 / 16 GB were used.
There's this thing called "inodes" which you can query the use of with df -i
100% inode usage.. how? Tried to use find and sort to find out where they were used and.. oh it can't create a temp file.

Great. Eventually I found something that gives a recursive count of files for each directory. Home. Cendyne. Maildir?

Wait what's this? 884883 files for queued messages from root to Cendyne?

Okay.. every minute cron has been sending an email which has been queued in the inbox for years.

Buying new computer parts.
The water cooler loop did leak, but it wasn't the cause.

Motherboard USBs were not predictably functioning. Would occasionally disconnect and reconnect.

For a while I would have this thing where every 40-80 seconds, the mouse and keyboard would pause buffer for 8 or so seconds. Then the mouse would jump to where it should be.

I switched to a PCIe USB card and it worked wonders better. Except for when I needed to peek into the bios.

Swapping in the old GPU, which should work, has the same behavior as the new GPU which a bit of fluid coolant spilled on.

Can't boot from a USB drive.

Can't boot into windows.

I think it is halting once the cpu exits 16 bit mode in the bootloader. Windows at least had the sense to toss in a watchdog timer to reboot if nothing proceeds.

Yeah, don't know how to fix it. Doxygen is just refusing to output the usual file for my template using aliases / inline constexpr variables as a standalone XML so breathe just cannot find half of my stuff.

So all of my documentation is extremely broken on the latest Doxygen.
