Seems like all the early adopters are going to sh*t in the pool of information for generations to come.

The quality of search results are going down for all sorts of reasons. And it is taking a dive for the worst, fast,

Does Australia exist? According to Bing: no. With credible citations too.

"Wikipedia isn't a source" my middle school teachers would say, and yet it is nearing the most long term reputable source of information.

Does Lenovo sell an abacus? No. Have they ever sold an abacus? No. Will they ever sell an ancient instrument in mathematics? No. We have computers. They sell computers. There is no reason for them to come up with this dumb FAQ about abacuses made by a machine, populated with a machine, and then published on the web — likely without being read by the person who committed it for factuality.

Got the new Titan key from Google.
Can't even view what keys it is storing with Chrome from Google.

I wonder when employees from Google will make Titan compatible with Chrome from Google.

Do you ever get into debates about whether the mouth should be called bean-hole, corn-hole, or pie-hole — while grilling someone's shoes for being dropped on the river? (This is a dream)

Apple in their TrueType reference writes a lot about how to render halfway-legible text on low resolutions...

cendyne,

@alcinnz
I could only guess that their apple watch or historic iPod 2017 with its 480×320 resolution is to blame.

What brings you to their TrueType docs?

Does anyone know what this weird ripple effect is caused by? This isn't my phone, it's a video from someone else and I've got very little context.

Video showing a ripple effect moving up and then down the home screen of an iPhone.

cendyne,
@cendyne@furry.engineer avatar

@thomasareed @xnyhps @iamkale I've triggered it by holding my new iPhone on top of my old iPhone. It was a surprise at first.

Some mid night reading has learned me

JavaScript has a built in regex match for emojis!

const regexpEmojiPresentation = /\p{Emoji_Presentation}/gu;

You don't need complex and sometimes wrong regex from stack overflow to match emojis now.

OK, a serious and burning question: why do we have sex scenes in so many films to begin with?

Like, I came here to see a sci-fi film about time-traveling murderbots. Why is there 30 seconds of moaning and bad softcore erotica in the middle of my cybernetic murder spree? I'm sitting there awkwardly and thinking to myself: Mr. or Mrs. filmmaker, what exactly do you want me to do?!

I know it's a part of life, but we don't show the protagonist picking their nose or taking a dump. Why not just stick to wholesome murderbots?

In the year 2023, this hotel still uses magnetic cards and has no chip support in their payment terminals.

And, my key is already dead because it went into the pocket with my airpods. Magnets, how do they work?

Will be taking a more active approach to "is what I share engaging because it evokes fury and anger?" This was briefly left behind with the Twitter exodus. Now it is more common here and elsewhere in my life. It isn't something I or my friends need.

Anyone a desk lamp that gets suspiciously hot (80c+) around the switch, but otherwise works perfectly fine 🫠

It's fed by an external DC power brick so I don't expect it to blow up spectacularly, but it will probably short out at some point and take the analog coil power brick with it

The joys of home ownership: I have a new mower and it comes with motorized wheels. It has a stronger motor, which allows me to cut the grass more finely and to a lower level.

And this time, my back doesn't hurt at the end.

Is the CSS margin-trim property something you'd like to see in Interop 2024??

Want to learn what it does? I explain in this video (the link jumps to the correct timestamp):

@jensimmons this is so exciting! I can't wait for other browsers to add this wonderful property.
