@plants Another for
Antennaria species: not one of the small silver rosette Pussytoes, this one is also rosette and mat forming, but larger than the silvers, medium green leaves(they darken over the season) with white backs, and flowers are earlier than the silvers. This patch is beside the house, growing in a (not yet this year) mowed area with dandelions, clover, grass + Viola adunca, Fragaria virginiana, etc.

Bright green newly emerging leafy rosettes showing the white leaf backs as white leaf margins, against dry and green grass.
A mass of the Pussytoes flowering stems emerging from low green mixed foliage, with a few dandelions in flower and lots of purple violets in foreground and mixed in.

Suddenly no internet, no phone. They work on the cables. Can be disturbed until Friday. 😫 (My smartphone connection is too expensive)

Edit: Yeah, I'm back in the world with 12,7 MB/3,1 MB and possibly problems until Friday.

@cohanf@mastodon.online avatar

@NatureMC Those are your down/upload speeds? Sometimes I get better speeds, usually I'd be thrilled to have those...lol I just checked now and got 19/1.8 then 27/1.1..lol (this should be a not busy time of day for the network)

@cohanf@mastodon.online avatar

@NatureMC on the plus side, if it is widespread, you know they will work as fast as they can..lol

cohanf,

@NatureMC even if you keep your fire for smoke signals contained in a metal burner? 😆

In pursuit of a balanced lifestyle, I have started alternating scrolling with my right thumb and my left.

@cohanf@mastodon.online avatar

@vlrny sounds like you are well along the path 😆 I can't follow your example, since I use a mouse, no room to put it on the left side...lol

cohanf,
@cohanf@mastodon.online avatar

@vlrny I could roll my chair over a bit, I guess... lol I'm actually moderately ambidexterous- we used to practise opposite hand writing when I was a kid, haven't done that for ages, but hairdressing also gets you using both hands with comb, scissors etc going at the same time,,, Just occurred to me to wonder if 'handedness' is why some of my co-workers only spin one drink at a time, when 2 handed is so much more efficient (we are always rushed..)

I finally finished my Mother's Day (Mothers Day) /Great Mother Spring Altar blogpost (plus a rather long footnote about the Baltic Goddess Ragana (reduced to a hag/'witch' reclaimed by modern witches but really so much more!)- on blogger and wordrpress

YouTube video is in the blog, Spectra linked, I'll link it and the Spectra in replies to this as well.

@pagan @paganism
from the blog- re: Baltic goddess Ragana:
"Of course ... authority based on intimidation and ignorance drove the old ways to the wilds, outside civilised village and city life. Of course they labelled these women as dangerous or deranged- for the simple truths they lived were indeed dangerous to the repressive patriarchy..."
Birch catkins- Birch is a tree associated with Ragana and many other European goddesses, suggesting the antiquity of the association.

Here's a still view of the finished altar, plus another angle where it seems the Goddess manifested among the flowers and greenery (I say this kind of thing a bit jokingly, but also believe the [non-specific] divine energy is there for us to see and feel)

Same altar as previous, in this view beside the handle of the Mom cup, several things in the background have combined to give the appearance of a face, white and sharp almost like a theatre mask.

I do not understand tornado chasers. That has got to be the dumbest nerd thing ever.

cohanf,
@cohanf@mastodon.online avatar

@billyjoebowers I personally am not into the risk of it, but man, the storms are beautiful!

cohanf,
@cohanf@mastodon.online avatar

@billyjoebowers yeah, some of them seem well prepared and careful, others ( I presume wanting to cash in on the potential YouTube fame) seem rather reckless. I was surprised recently to see how long many of the videos are-- many hours! I'm good with the highlights reel...

@NatureMC that's from not feeding the jeans enough? I thought it was from feeding me too much 😁

We've just passed in the Latvian tradition- all based on the Cross-quarter day between Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice.
In the Latvian division of the year, this marks the beginning of the
of the land ++ are associated with this time. I have a blog post with pics + vids of bees, flowers etc and link to another post about the roots of the Latvian celebration.

part 1
@pagan @3goodthings Went out for what I thought would be just a bit of fresh air and brief chores, as it was raining just before I went out. In fact it cleared slightly off and on, didn't rain and--continued:

part 2
@pagan @3goodthings

  1. I was able to find 8 species of wildflowers that either started since I was out last Thurs, or had started to flower in earnest since then plus
  2. several more things flowering in the gardens, some nice views in bits of sun when it came
  3. what I thought would be very quick jaunt onto the farm to look at Caltha turned into a longer walk, lots of photos and video and enjoying a beautiful spring afternoon as things begin to green--continued:

part 3
@pagan @3goodthings
Yesterday was Mother's Day ( I was working) and Mom's birthday was right around now also, so I always (still, after her death) make a bouquet of the first wildflowers and early garden flowers-I'll do that tomorrow since it should be sunny, more flowers open, but today was a beautiful scouting walk and and (thunder god, in case you think the primordial goddesses need help with storms 😉 ) were kind and held off till I was back indoors!

This video is a short clip from a video taken a number of years ago in the mountains- the sun hit the water in a way that dazzled the camera sensor, creating this effect of purple rain!
If you are old like me, or a Prince fan, purple rain is going to make you think of his big hit by that name! Do you think this was a message?? 😆

@NatureMC I noticed it a little on another video from the same day.. this was my old camera, I haven't noticed anything like this with the current one, though I haven't been in the mountains for a long time, and don't often come near running water...lol
