Depends on the thing. If I could eg remove health conditions from my life that would also be adding something good, in a very real sense. eg whatever is going on with me and grains – if that went away, I’d be able to eat gluten (yay) and not have to worry about/recover from oats, corn and wholemeal rice.
Now there’s a GE on the way, recommendations for UK politics accounts and politics commentators who actually regularly post here (not just sporadic broadcasting or accounts that have been inactive since 2022) would be fab, if anyone has some. (Don’t worry – I won’t flood feeds with any of this stuff, although I may be a bit giddy on the night of 4 July, unless polling radically shifts before then.)
@pasquires Yep. Most of the commentators I liked came here for about a week, complained they didn’t immediately get massive followings, and went back to X. There are exceptions. Stephen Bush posts and replies on Bluesky. But most folks appear to be article broadcast only.
@sdarlington It’s astonishing. My MP’s response to me was “everyone has to make sacrifices”. Yeah. Self-employed people got nothing. PAYE people were getting a big chunk of their wages. Although I doubt that many people are fully aware of that.
@crutlefish@sdarlington If someone’s set fire to your shed, maybe eject them from the garden, even if the next person you invite in may not have the money to fully rebuild it.
Heh. I had this happen to me one time. I worked for the marketing team of a tech company looking to branch out into web design. I was the designer. We got a great lead. My manager forced me to wear a suit, which I said was a bad idea. She argued we had to make a “good impression”. The meeting went very well. They loved my ideas. We didn’t get the gig. I later heard: “We just didn’t trust a designer wearing a suit.”
As for ties… yeah. I was forced to wear one of those as well. On the plus side, my manager never again told me what to wear for any meeting. Not that I was there for an awful lot longer anyway.
TDYK is bad. But it’s also worth noting this bundle can optionally also include the entire Hellboy run as well. So if you didn’t pick up the previous DH Hellboy HB, this one is a bargain.
Also: good job, DH, in carefully considering the tiers that way. Unlike Titan, which has now issued a fourth Doctor Who bundle but always reserves the new additions for the most expensive tier.
The RPS editor’s been fired. Hard to see the voice of RPS and Eurogamer surviving, although fingers crossed both won’t just be mashed into IGN with a fork.
Funny how when I was a kid, I always dreamed of working on a games mag. Now, there are almost no paper mags left and the online ones are vanishing at speed.
As a child of the 80s who was into Transformers and had a G1 Optimus (which a friend broke – fume), I should be the target market for this kind of thing. And I probably was, right up until I discovered it costs 80 bucks. For a transforming Hot Wheels 1:64 scale toy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTHh_iXNNjs
@craiggrannell at first i thought "oh well, 80 quid sounds reasonable for the 'now in their 40s-50s with disposable income' nostalgia market" ... and then I saw the actual size of the toy. what the hell? sure, it's metal and sturdy, but that price tag is wild for what is essentially a complex fidget toy
Those rumours rattling around about the new #iPhone being even thinner than the new iPad. All I can say is: why? With the iPad, I get it. Having a lighter 13in iPad makes it less unwieldy. For a device you hold for ages, that’s good. But is anyone really desperate for a thinner iPhone, especially if the alternative option would be an iPhone with a battery that lasted longer?
This keyboard looks like it’s been kicked around. But it’s been taken care of well and is only two years old. Sure, I use it daily. But that level of wear and tear on the keys is a bit rubbish.
Are other comparable brands more durable? (And even if this was down to Apple skimping on durability for $$$, it’s not like I can replace this keyboard anyway like-for-like, because it has a tint that matches my iMac.)
@ravi@alexsereno Yeah, I had a look at the UK site, which does offer UK layouts – albeit ones that would require at least some retraining. (Fn is in a different spot, eg, as are the arrow keys.)
@craiggrannell@ravi You can just move the keys around! Its mechanical! Don't even worry about the layout! Every element is customizable and replaceable
