Friday, May 17🌺

  1. Lazy, pleasant day even if it did include my monthly trek to the salon.
  2. Today the two regular mallards were joined by a third on their zoom run over the yard. If this expansion continues, I’ll have a flock of 33 in a month. 😱
  3. A few of the petunias I planted for color outside my slider, and my view from my permanent seat on the couch. (All reasons I rarely leave the house.)

Pink & yellow petunias in the late afternoon sun.
Patio table holding four bonsai trees under a bright green umbrella, with two flowered lounge chairs. Red and pink oleanders fill the background.

Thursday, May 16🌺

  1. Workmen are absent today from next door’s landscaping project & the silence is profound and welcome.
  2. I have no idea of their home base or destination, but two big mallards have chosen my yard for a twice-daily, very fast fly through. 🦆🦆
  3. Ate dinner for lunch (chicken thigh & rosemary fries) and fell back in love with the air fryer.

In considering replacing my elderly (2018) IPadPro, I walked through the Apple sales configuration dialogue yesterday.

It’s weird, but I didn’t see the options for “CONFERS ‘EXPERT STATUS’” on:
Epidemiology
International diplomacy
US Constitution & all associated legal matters, especially trials & appeals
SCOTUS
US & Int’l politics
Presidential debates, polling & election strategies
Climatology
World religions
All inequality
AI & its implications
Strategic war tactics
—— and every other damn thing (almost) everyone on social media opines about.

Must have missed it. /s

Wednesday, May 15🌺

  1. Re-landscaping construction continues next door keeping me inside, but also reminding me how precious is this neighborhood’s silence 99% of the time.
  2. My roses are resting, but all jasmine & oleanders are in full bloom, and a couple of crape myrtle blossoms have appeared. (Pics below only show a portion of plants.)
  3. Amazingly good & amazingly easy homemade wor won ton soup last night, with leftovers for tonight.

Expanse of blooming star jasmine against a fence, with blue sky.

Since irises are showing their beautiful faces now, here are two of my fave pics from a (genuinely) medieval garden at the Abbaye Royale de Fontevraud, Loire Valley, France. (Although their remains are absent, this is the original burial site of Henry II, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Richard the Lionheart, etc.)

Three violet, rust & rose-colored irises against a light-colored stone wall.

@cynblogger hi. Gorgeous irises, I have photos of a very similar variety from the front of my house. I don't remember where I got it from, the rest of my irises are purples.
Stunning 😍

@meganisalanis
❤️❤️ I’ve never tried to grow them, but they’re a gorgeous flower!

Tuesday, May 14🌺

  1. Still exhausted from the last dinner I’ll ever host, but everything is cleaned up, including the dirty dishes I put away neatly in the cupboards. 🤬 (I thought I ran the dishwasher; it must have been a Vicodin dream.)
  2. Granddaughter took the family’s first dip into NC son’s new pool, in the rain.
  3. Vagabond son & DIL hiked 4 miles into Bryce Canyon at 8000’ elevation. Got some great photos & survived. Also survived the motorcycle ride to the national park.

Bryce Canyon NP - hoodoos of pink/orange stone under blue sky & white clouds.
Golden-brown gnarled tree stump, bare & knotty wood.
Bryce Canyon, panoramic view of pink-orange stone shapes across a massive canyon, with blue sky & white clouds.

@cynblogger oh I hate that! Realizing I just put away dirty dishes into the cabinets!

Sunday, May 12🌺

  1. Providing the restaurant delivery comes through as ordered, my house is ready for my grandson’s birthday dinner. Working on my party mood now. 🥳
  2. Lovely messages & calls from sons & DILs for Mother’s Day.
  3. No aurora visible here last night, but waiting, sitting in the dark & staring up at the stars & sliver of moon was both magical & hypnotic.

Saturday, May 11 🌺

  1. Saw a bit of the aurora late last night and discovered that the scent of jasmine perfumes the whole back garden.
  2. Got the dining room cleared for tomorrow’s guests. (Not as easy as it sounds - it’s practically an Amazon annex.)
  3. Making lime & thyme potato salad today, using my very own key limes. Sooo yum!
  4. Bonus: More photos from vagabond son & DIL at Bryce Canyon NP, where it snowed a little on them yesterday (above 9100 feet).

Bryce Canyon’s pinkish-colored rocks with dark green trees and a bit of falling snow.

@cynblogger LOL Amazon annex. I’m familiar with that here. The dining table is ready to walk away with itself.

My next-door neighbor has selected THE most beautiful day of this year to re-do his entire back & side yards with a jackhammer, backhoe, dump truck, and what sounds like 5000 yards of river rock, plus many worker bees.

I’ll be in my guest room closet if anyone wants me. 🤬

Friday, May 10🌺

  1. Lovely visit with BFF x 51 years, and I didn’t have to cook! Gotta love someone who will eat leftover chicken tostada salad for breakfast.
  2. Expecting this area’s “perfect weather” for a week - high 80’s - low 90’s, 48% humidity, sunny, & I have nothing to do but sit outside & enjoy it.
  3. Vagabond son & DIL are very impressed with the beauty of Bryce Canyon NP. (pic)

Barron Trump chosen as Florida delegate to Republican National Convention

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/article/2024/may/09/barron-trump-florida-delegate-republican-national-convention?CMP=share_btn_url

Is this the next media star in the Trump royal family?

@cynblogger

I don't see the kid growing up any differently than Donald himself.

To throw him into the cauldron of the family politics at that age? Good Lord, I don't give that young man a 1% chance at anything resembling a healthy life. He was born into the Trump lab, where they find out how to royally fuck up a person.

Wednesday, May 8🌺

  1. Every bush, shrub & tree in my entire yard has been in frenetic motion from WIND 💨🍃all day, even though it’s sunny & warm. I’m hunkering down inside.
  2. Hosting a birthday 🎂 dinner for my grandson this weekend & had to order a crapload of junk food today. Balanced it out with an indulgent package of halibut.
  3. Vagabond son & DIL left Zion NP for Bryce Canyon, which I remember (as a four-year-old) as the land of pink stone castles with turrets. This pic is of Zion.

@cynblogger Beautiful photo! I hope to visit there someday.

In his recent “60 Minutes” interview, House Minority Leader Jeffries said that “…everything we want for America is on the ballot.”

DEMOCRATS want what is good for our country & good for everyday Americans.

🔹Reproductive Freedom
🔹Immigration Reform
🔹Gun Safety Laws
🔹Tax Equity, Including Wealth Tax & IRS Enforcement
🔹Climate Crisis Solutions & Funding
🔹Judiciary Ethics Reform
🔹Voting Rights
🔹Equality For All
🔹Continuing Support For Ukraine & NATO
🔹Etc.

We can’t just sit back and hope others will be working the vote, donating, writing postcards, contacting people one-on-one to GET OUT THE VOTE.

WE must be the workers who get the job done.

This election is between democracy or fascism. Biden or chaos.

DONATE TO DEMS.
WORK TO GET OUT THE BLUE VOTE.
SPREAD THE TRUTH ABOUT PRES. BIDEN’S SUCCESSES.
JOIN AN ACTIVIST GROUP.

WE HAVE SIX MONTHS.

Maybe RFK Jr.’s brain worm was just a wandering atrophied ear worm. I suffered with that “Rent” melody parody of Georgia’s 11,780 votes as an ear worm for two solid weeks. 😱
