#Trump pledges to 'roll back' Democratic President Joe #Biden’s #gun#regulations put in place by Democratic President Joe #Biden & to fire the #ATF chief during a lengthy rally speech to the #NRA on Sat, during which he accepted the influential group's #endorsement.
The address to thousands of #NRA members at the group's annual Leadership Forum in Dallas was light on new #policy, but he used the platform to urge #gun supporters to go to the polls in the Nov #election.
"We've got to get gun owners to vote," #Trump said in his wide-rangingspeech, which covered everything from his #criminal trials to #trade & #immigration over >90 mins.
"I think you're a rebellious bunch. But let's be rebellious & vote this time."
The nation's top #gun rights group has now endorsed #Trump 3X - in 2016, 2020 & 2024.
The org cheered on Trump during his 2017-2021 term, as he appointed 3 #conservative justices to #SCOTUS & took a series of steps sought by the #GunLobby.…Including designating #firearm shops as “essential businesses” during the #COVID19#pandemic, allowing them to stay open.
During the speech, #Trump repeated a pledge to fire the director of the Bureau of #Alcohol, #Tobacco, #Firearms & #Explosives, known as the #ATF, on Day One of a potential administration. He accused that agency, which enforces #UnitedStates#GunLaws, of being heavy-handed w/ #FirearmOwners & revoking licenses on frivolous grounds.
"Tonight, Donald Trump confirmed that he will do exactly what the #NRA tells him to do - even if it means more death, more shootings, & more suffering,"— #Biden camp spox.
…Trump repeated a false claim that he won the 2020 election, & he went after Biden in aggressive terms, repeating claims of corruption that are not supported by available #evidence.
< 2 hrs after #POTUS Biden made his move Wed to upend the nation’s presidential #debate tradition, 2 of CNN’s top political journos were on the phone w/Trump’s high command.
“We are sending you a proposal for a #debate that will be in your inbox at 10AM,” one told Trump snr leadership, Susie Wiles, Chris LaCivita & Tony Fabrizio…before rattling off the terms of a June 27 meeting in Atlanta….
By 10:14AM, #Biden’s campaign had
announced the president would attend the CNN event. The #Trump campaign agreed mins later. One of the most consequential disruptions to the sequence of American presidential campaigns since the first televised #debate in 1960 had been completed by lunchtime.
The only thing left was for the campaigns & the country to figure out what had happened.
Disagreements about the debate conditions & the agreement’s significance flared even as voters began hearing the news. At 10:56AM, CNN announced terms that largely followed the demands #Biden had announced earlier that morning — a first meeting in June, organized by a network on Biden’s suggested list, w/no live audience [& muted mics when time’s up].

The plan is to keep the government operating until November. That's the plan. It's up to voters to do their part next and vote like hell - Democrats all the way down the ballot - in order to get unified control of government. Then Biden + Jeffries will lead SCOTUS reform, Roe into law, comprehensive (and sensible) immigration reform, taxing the rich and corporations, and restoring voting rights. It feels to me as though far too many of us just reject truths that have the potential of any impending disaster.
We didn’t want to believe the facts of COVID transmission and just stopped masking & limiting activities.
We don’t want to consider what #climatecatastophe will actually be like in all its horror, which is directly related to mega-corporations & Republicans in power.
We are ignoring the FACT of Trump’s fascism & what his Project 25 will mean to our daily lives.
We act as though there is a viable choice in November, when there’s only one sane act: re-electing Pres. Biden. We’ve perfected denial and it’s going to kill us in so many ways.
BRITT BILL WOULD CREATE FEDERAL DATABASE TRACKING PREGNANCIES
Alabama Senator Katie Britt, best known for delivering a bizarre, melodramatic televised response to President Biden's 2024 State of the Union address, has introduced a bill to create a federal website to collect data on pregnant people.
The bill, the More Opportunities for Moms to Succeed Act (MOMS Act), would mandate the creation of a federal website called Pregnancy.gov, which Britt calls a "clearinghouse of relevant resources available for pregnant and postpartum women, and women parenting young children."
The website would take users through series of questions, it claims, to generate a list of relevant resources of interest within the user’s zip code. The bill would also allow government officials to reach out to users for additional information.
The database would refer users to so-called "crisis pregnancy centers"; fake clinics that do not actually provide women with healthcare, but rather use deception and coercion to scare women away from getting an abortion, even if it necessary for their own health.
