I was reflecting on why do I have this need of seeking folks with unconventional, non-traditional life trajectories, folks who are rebellious, inquisitive and carved out a niche for themselves, by themselves. Folks who not only stood their ground and rebelled but also made something for themselves and I think it’s about courage.

I’ve realized I get along really well with folks who experienced lot of friction in life & after experiencing had to make out something original, independently.

1-I do & for the reasons U mentioned but specifically “knowing internal self”, expressing it” & not seeing it reflected in the “norms” e.g. being told age 5 by adults that “girls don’t like science, maths, physics or engineering”. I asked, “Why?” & got an opinionated, not factual, not relatable “because …”. Tested it out inc. my friends, found no purchase & dismissed. This is what attracted me to empirical science-creating/validating my own grounded mental models(maps).

And so irrelevant.

2- Forging my own path/journey/perspective informed by information(books)+lived experience(nurture)+collaboration in community(people)+autonomous system(inherited+sensed)+being vulnerable(signal) started early & so practiced it’s intuitive for me but a challenge to “explain” to others.
That’s why I asked about recommendations for lesson plans on the other thread.
Imagined or real pain from failure stops people asking questions or seeking answers-https://mastodon.social/@dahukanna/111670004660887417

3- The thing that really amazes me is how people mindlessly state “Do this thing … because tradition …”
You know what I’m going to say, right? “Why?”
At one point in time that atrophied “tradition” was an inspired, contextual thought & idea in some ancestor’s lived experience, that “made sense” at the time. Does it still “make sense” now? At least invest time to asses/validate that Q. Otherwise, we end up in “Emperor’s new clothes” gullible compliance situation.

dahukanna,
@dahukanna@mastodon.social avatar

@impactology @stephenpa

It requires “mapping” that territory that is intimately familiar to you/me but might as well be Mars, Jupiter, Alien to others.

That’s why vulnerability and humility are core ingredients for the work of creating content for sharing that unique mental model/map with others. It starts from the point of known convention and then a guided wonder. Otherwise it only results in further alienation.

Current idea for guided wonder is the lesson plans, which raises my inner irk.

Thanks and appreciate that feedback.

dahukanna,
@dahukanna@mastodon.social avatar

@impactology @stephenpa

I have nothing against “traditions”. I viscerally react when presented as a “panacea”.

I want to know why:

  1. It’s meaningful now to you, the practiioner.
  2. Its application is relevant in your current context.
  3. Opportunity costs (rejected options).
  4. Evidence for decision making & if, with super computers in the palm of hands, the answer is mindless repetition of “because tradition …”

(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

dahukanna,
@dahukanna@mastodon.social avatar

@impactology @stephenpa

But ironically you need the entire script/story and know how it’s going to “end” to set up that enticing, engaging “prologue”.

dahukanna,
@dahukanna@mastodon.social avatar

@impactology @stephenpa
Observed as a non-traditionally trained digital designer i.e. not a graphic arts graduate -

  1. non-tradition (unknown) == 2. non-familiar (pattern) == 3. uncomfortable (hormones) == 4. threat (cognitive assessment triggered by prior hormones) == 5. reflexive & hormonal (emotion) fear response.

There is no curiosity, exploration, thinking intercept triggered at step 1, so your body does what it always does & has been programmed to do-“tradition” inherited from DNA code.

dahukanna,
@dahukanna@mastodon.social avatar

@impactology @stephenpa

I summarized default to reflex DNA code that’s implemented as chemical hormones(1-5) unless we insert “interrupts” or deliberations.
Based on current known theory, once a hormonal cascading wave starts, if no “interrupts”, you have to “ride it out”. If you are not aware that you are riding an automated, predetermined hormonal cascading wave, then you react on reflex.
When I experience this, I’ve learned to wonder around that experience with curiousity & observe.

dahukanna,
@dahukanna@mastodon.social avatar

@impactology @stephenpa

Nuance is challenging with 500 character limit and sharing a personal perspective/map/mental model.

dahukanna,
@dahukanna@mastodon.social avatar

@impactology @stephenpa

> Ah so a pattern of these hormones are passed down via DNA for feeling a set of emotions

Yes as an explanation, model or simplified map but obviously not the actual “territory” as no-one knows what all our DNA actually does, in real-time. We don’t have tools for that, yet!

That list you shared are the current evidentiary building blocks we’ve uncovered, so far.

dahukanna,
@dahukanna@mastodon.social avatar

@impactology @stephenpa

Cognition is changeable - agreed.

And now I borrow from quantum physics (unnecessary silo-isation of physics at a different scale of observation) - I think that cognition is always in equilibrial flux, that’s why we can tolerate “paradox - holding 2 opposing ideas simultaneously ”. But at the time of observation, it only has one observable state - like a photograph snapshot at a point in time, it’s not permanent/forever.

Curated Examples of Fiscal Transparency in governments around the world to increase accountability and public participation in public infrastructure decision making by OpenGovPartnership

https://www.opengovpartnership.org/stories/what-steps-to-increase-fiscal-transparency-and-participation-should-ogp-countries-take-in-their-next-action-plans/

I think for initiatives of fiscal transparency or direct/participatory democracy to work you need a population that is not deferential to authority, instead we in India have a culture that supports, promotes and reward compliance, obsequiousness & servility to in order to acculturate

I agree that intrinsic motivation is nurtured and established early in life before formal education. Early year teachers before age 7 are also have an important impact.

Engaging that inner child as an adult is challenging, without reconnecting.

Feature Branching is Evil 💪

Where: online at the Agile Alliance Tech Talks
When: next week, Wednesday, Jan 10th at 10 am ET (that should be 4 pm CET according to my calendar 🤷‍♂️ )

@tdpauw @lisihocke

Why is a practice or tool “evil” when it is used “maladaptively” in an anti-pattern. Shouldn’t we help tool users make contextual choices and trade-offs?
Not all teams have the practices and workflows in agile, devops CI-CD, automated testing & benchmarking to practice “never break the” Trunk-based development.

Please frame and provide decision informing options with trade-offs rather than zero-sum choices.

“Big layoff at Duolingo : r/duolingo”

Pretty sure that the AI Bubble is kicking of a round of massive platform decay in every sector of tech and big chunks of the media industry

This is going to overwhelmingly destroy more value than it creates. https://sh.reddit.com/r/duolingo/comments/18sx06i/big_layoff_at_duolingo/

It’s like the “move” from words-to-video … to 3DTV … to secondlife 2.0 … to AI.

“Cutting off nose to spite your face” seems to be the order of the day.

Engineers can only design for specific situations and have to define efficiency within limited parameters.

Conversely, nature constructs solutions with the flexibility to accommodate unforeseen circumstances, allowing for multiple endeavors to address the problem.

There is this theme of divergence, interdependence and multiplicity in nature.

Of having multiple contingencies, of having multiple roots, multiple foundations.

That’s like efficiently, reliably and predictably explaining why most humans see the sky as a blue hue when human eyes only detect ~1% of all possible frequencies in the electro-magnetic spectrum. Imagine if we could explore & experience some of the other 99% of the electro-magnetic spectrum?

Is there any equivalent of notation, technique like state diagrams, or state-transition diagrams in performance arts? In music, dance, theatre?

Like dance notation, Laban movement analysis?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dance_notation

"Dance notation is the symbolic representation of human dance movement and form, using methods such as graphic symbols and figures, path mapping, numerical systems, and letter and word notations"

How do you find people with original independent thinking when you live in a place that supports, promotes and reward compliance, obsequiousness & servility to in order to acculturate?

https://mastodon.social/@impactology/111398538588867679

Does anyone have a strategy?

dahukanna,
@dahukanna@mastodon.social avatar

@impactology everyone has original thinking as everyone’s experience is unique.
Non-status quo perspectives don’t get space to write, express, publish, be discussed & adopted as they’re dismissed & denied.
The compliance requirement + imprint starts so early & with seemingly innocuous expression. Try being a kid in a culture that rejects 50% of handedness e.g. being left-handed. You receive micro-aggressions of ridicule, name calling and shaming.
Non-conformers are a larger “silent” population.

dahukanna,
@dahukanna@mastodon.social avatar

@impactology collective cohesion and co-creation is required to make space for the “other” perspectives and voices.
