Decided to streamline the project scope by focusing on the theme of Imagination for Invention & Discovery

So examining limitations of imagination in conventional pedagogies for research, learning & teaching, as well as exploring alternative pedagogies that utilise interface affordances to enhance imagination for purpose of invention and discovery in education, research, and learning

Helps me to simply focus on factors that limit imagination in pedagogies for its role in invention and discovery

Milestones Digital Glossary โ€” An interactive website with a list of definitions thematized according to overlaps between design and educational psychology. It should also feature interactive elements such as highlighting related concepts when a definition is clicked. Design Framework โ€” Complete your own design philosophy and then revise conventional UX deliverables with your own methods and its diagrams with your own onto-episte, design principles/philosophy-derived methods and frameworks and make them into diagrams. Actually, this could be part of your milestone as well. Diagramming your onto-episte, philosophies, principles. Pattern Library โ€” Epistemic Cognition Design Pattern library for learning, teaching, and research activities, specifically tailored for Open Education, Open Pedagogy, and Edtech. This library will play a crucial role in defining the ten themes for your book, which explores novel interactive visual abstractions in UI design within the context of educational psychology, open education, and interface design. Newsletter โ€” 10 themes, 20 essays of invention, analysis taken from the above themes, do that via email newsletter substance and Twitter threads.

Iโ€™d recommend looking at this article - https://www.rethinkingpower.info/how-interpretive-labor-straddles-the-gap-between-rules-and-reality/

UI intended design & actual implementation is always limited by means of production as well as collective human imagination.

For example, a set of administration functions I designed in 2021 still have not been signed-off & passed to development due to business priorities & limited team capability. Having design system components & being able to produce production code reduces some friction.

One of the biggest things that's made a difference as I've gotten more experienced as an engineer is learning the difference between solving problems and implementing solutions.

I don't solve obvious problems anymore, I implement obvious solutions

and it changes everything

@hazelweakly @adrianco

Agreed from fellow โ€œintent diagrammer (edit) and implementorโ€ - โ€œeverything is a prototypeโ€. So build something and get it out there for course-correcting feedback from embodied physical experience rather than imagined abstract mental model.

(Edit) Iโ€™m not advocating โ€œmove fast, break thingsโ€ but rather โ€œmove fast, listen to feedback then decide next stepsโ€. Yes more expensive money wise but less toxic expense for humans, animals, environment and planet as a whole.

I asked a frontend friend what framework he would recommend if he was starting a new project today. He said , so I spent the afternoon walking through their online tutorial and playing around with .

I've got to say, as someone with fairly rudimentary JS skills, it was a great experience. It feels a lot closer to HTML/CSS and a lot simpler than a lot of the other JS frameworks.

dahukanna,
@dahukanna@mastodon.social avatar

@serpentroots @adrianco

Sharing a perspective:

  1. For personal projects suggest trying a few on equivalent implementations, pick the one that suits your mental models & the challenge at hand-https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Learn/Tools_and_testing/Client-side_JavaScript_frameworks.
    Personally prefer VueJs as it supports native HTML, CSS & JavaScript as well as providing structure & APIs.

  2. In an Organisation there are other considerations e.g. imposed corporate or institutional standards & selected defaults, etc.

Unfortunately, there isnโ€™t a Panacea.JS-๐Ÿ˜‰

The boom in LLMs is going to hollow out a number of knowledge-worker industries โ€” for example, writing boilerplate code or technical documentation

Not because it does it well but because the flacks can sell upper management on the idea that it can do it at all, as @pluralistic recently pointed out

This sale is a pig-in-a-poke, and the winning move is to not be holding the bag when the actual code or documentation is found to be terrible

1/2 - How about making the various Machine Learning model architectures available and using your own data to train it for your personal use so it becomes a spoken or written conversational interface to โ€œyour digital stuffโ€. Alternative to sitting in front of a keyboard and mouse.

So it is โ€œdemocratizedโ€ and available to all, not just the โ€œoverlordsโ€.

Anyone used for publishing knowledge or education material?

@impactology @PropCazhPM

dahukanna,
@dahukanna@mastodon.social avatar

@impactology @PropCazhPM

Apologies.

Openstax seems to be a platform for sharing any educational materials like books, lessons, etc as opposed to Massive Open Online Courses which is philosophically classroom based I.e. material formatted in incremental lessons.

Openstax seems to be legit open platform (presumption =100%) and Iโ€™d like to double check that presumption with community here.

Hope that clarifies my request?

Starting post related to https://mastodon.social/@dahukanna/111670004660887417.
So started with:

  1. Curating content
  2. Selecting topics
  3. Stating learning objectives. challenge 1. The reason why I want to learn somethings varies & is usually intrinsically motivated.
  4. Splitting topic content into chunks. Second main challenge - I prefer active working through exercises to being talked at (lectured), read a wall of text or watching a linear video. (Edit typos)

"Software alchemist" is not a job title, more descriptive/expressive of what I "seem" to be able to do , with creating digital experiences using software as my "material or medium (edit)" and a play on words -
Alchemist: a person who transforms or creates something through a "seemingly magical process".

dahukanna,
@dahukanna@mastodon.social avatar

@hirugaesu @impactology @PropCazhPM

Using tying shoelaces analogy & substitute "shoelaces" with "software".

  1. I'd start with my point of interest: What are shoelaces & why could/should/would you use them.
  2. If one of those applied cases interest you, then here's details on how to apply lace techniques.
  • As a bonus, I'd add how to create your personal set of laces & some specific lace tying techniques that apply to those type of laces e.g. threading lace eye-holes for a specific effect.

It's time to ditch the chaos of Slack and Discord communities and make a return to the organised, focused world of forums.

They aren't obsolete.

They aren't real time.

They just fucking work.

dahukanna, (edited )
@dahukanna@mastodon.social avatar

@Daojoan agreed.

Real-time chat does not have curation or conversation structure for it to hold useful knowledge for posterity.

There is no inbuilt โ€œposterityโ€, only forever present โ€œnowโ€.

Analogy - itโ€™s like trying to read a book whose paragraphs are random ordered, some are missing, some pages are gummed together, etc.

Edit: the material (writing) is the same but different form(at)s have different intended functions.

Donโ€™t conflate material with form(at).

Hi there @ashleykolodziej ๐Ÿ‘‹

I'd like to give a heads-up to movement where I'm involved and plan to revive the notion of or Social experience design, esp. for the .

https://discuss.coding.social

Your toot triggered a nice discussion in the repo: https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fediverse-ideas/issues/44

So much chatter on is either deeply technical or app-specific. The field of SX may offer a more holistic and inclusive perspective, focus on methods, guidance and best-practices.

dahukanna,
@dahukanna@mastodon.social avatar

@smallcircles @ashleykolodziej

Thanks for sharing.

Iโ€™m interested in the work/discussion/decisions to address a specified challenge that happen before assets like RadiFedi storybook components and patterns are created expressed as solution atomic building blocks.

Would this also be part of SX?

dahukanna,
@dahukanna@mastodon.social avatar

@smallcircles @ashleykolodziej

I only asked as a clarifying exercise because itโ€™s called โ€œsocial codingโ€ and I presumed it had a technical, implementation focus/loci.

Some onboarding โ€œwhat this is and isnโ€™tโ€ would be a useful reference as Iโ€™m sure I not the only interested Designer who is going to ask.

Took a quick look (I restrict SoMe to mobile) & โ€œreply guyโ€ topic sits squarely in existing digital experience voice and tone, conversation design and linguistics theory+practices.

Would be interesting to apply those tools & research methods to identify+document โ€œreply guyโ€ interactions+expectations+actors. Interested in developing an informed understanding/model of why this digital human interaction happens. Then figure out appropriate, contextual solutions.

Just came across this 90 day Project Management (not design or qual research, just the management part) course from a consultancy called louderthanten, for $3990

https://louderthanten.com/digital-pm-training

Would you pay 4k for this?

dahukanna,
@dahukanna@mastodon.social avatar

@impactology

Agree with @PropCazhPM

I call this consulting โ€œlaboratory developed outcomeโ€. Itโ€™s contextless, prescriptive & linear cos all variables are controlled or โ€œassumedโ€, as in a laboratory. Except purpose of laboratory is to run probing experiments to deeply explore, explain why & how something is happening to prove or disprove 1 variable or hypothesis.

This package is a recipe of how to run known โ€œrecipe, not make new.

See related toot about โ€œmake it easyโ€ - https://mastodon.social/@dahukanna/111714120468177942

dahukanna,
@dahukanna@mastodon.social avatar

@impactology @PropCazhPM

I would not pay a penny for this โ€œprescriptive simplificationโ€ until it is clear that this is the valid answer to my specific challenge.

This is classic โ€œwhy projects failโ€ territory/terrain. Use the appropriate โ€œfrickinโ€™โ€ map/atlas/model!

dahukanna,
@dahukanna@mastodon.social avatar

@impactology @PropCazhPM

Ran out of characters, otherwise I would have added โ€œnew or relevant recipeโ€.

If you order a specific meal from a restaurant, you donโ€™t expect to be supplied with something else and people perform perplexed head scratching because they donโ€™t know why the the โ€œprojectโ€ failed. It was โ€œdoomedโ€ from the planned start!

dahukanna,
@dahukanna@mastodon.social avatar

@impactology @PropCazhPM

Uncanny! When you posted this I did not see it because I was in digital post-it app thinking about/modeling process, projects and procedures ๐Ÿคฏ.

@dahukanna@mastodon.social avatar

@impactology @PropCazhPM agreed.

Just like a doctor should not prescribe โ€œopiatesโ€ without confirmatory diagnoses of symptoms/tests/xrays/etc. for a scraped knee when plaster+paracetamol is appropriate.

That package could be worth 4K or even 400K if it is appropriately relevant.

@dahukanna gpt is handy in helping break down skills into subskills for lesson planning.

Prompted it with my project details and then asked it to unpack a craft/technical skill in it's minutiae subskills and then map a set of competencies in a progression, with weekly or biweekly milestones across 3-4 months

Followed up with a prompt to get more granular and this is what it suggested.

Thinking out loud: part of my thinking in how I am approaching is what I started thinking of as the "boids model" of federated software development.

"But Hrefna, I sure as hell didn't hear about the 'boids model' in my SE classes"

Yes, this is just kind of my own colloquial thinking about it.

For those who are unaware, boids is an artificial life simulator based around the flocking behavior of birds. The idea is that we can simulate general flocking with a few basic rules.
